Some translated bits of
Warrior Talk #19.
This was released on December 15th.
The episode started with a bit of a preview of UFC 296 and the table essentially agreeing that Covington went too far at the presser and that some lines shouldn't be crossed for the sake of selling a fight.
Nabil Khachab
- Wasn't really a fighter as a kid.
- Eventually ended up at a small time Kickboxing gym, because he needed to lose weight and had to get up too early in the weekend for football practice lol.
- At first wasn't sure he was ready for the big leagues when he was up against Jürjendal.
- Wants to be in the Grand Prix, but doesn't want to look past Filipovic.
- Currently weighs around 143kgs.
- Says his ideal weight is between 120-123kgs, but doesn't want to drop the weight too fast.
- Thinks it's a shame youth fighters in the Netherlands cannot punch to the head anymore in fights. Remy somewhat challenged that and said fighter safety should be the main concern and that trainers should adapt their training methods. There was a bit of a discussion after that.
Nina van Dalum (Fly- and Bantamweight Enfusion Champion)
- Was a gymnast as a kid.
- Her father runs a Kickboxing gym
- One day she told her father she wanted to fight so her father started training her.
- Started doing fights soon after.
- After a few losses she switched gyms and it turned out to be a good move.
- Makes her Glory debut at against Debora Evora at G90.
- Hopes Glory's women's division will grow.
- Sees herself fighting Sarah Moussaddak at some point.
- Still has to defend her Enfusion belt(s).
- Currently still has a part-time job and is an instructor at both her current and her father's gym.
Levi Minkenberg (Super Lightweight Enfusion Champion)
- Wanted to train in Kickboxing since he was a kid, but his mom wouldn't let him.
- Didn't start Kickboxing until he was 18.
- Has fought 16 times (!) in the past two years.
- Had won 3 titles this year: King of the Ring, Enfusion and WFCA.
- Initially lost his Enfusion title fight to Mahmoud Sfef, but the decision was overturned after his team filed a protest.
- Wants to go to Glory or ONE eventually.
- Has done one full rules Muay Thai rules fight, but prefers fighting under Kickboxing rules.
- Looked into the camera and asked Robbie Timmers to consider him for Glory lol.
- Says he'd like to fight Glory's Chris Wunn.
Edward Strijkert (WFCA referee)
- Fully recovered from taking Plazibat's punch lol.
- His father made him go to Judo as a kid.
- Eventually he ended up in Kickboxing and had some amateur fights.
- Was always passionate about fightsports and martial arts.
- Became interested in reffing and followed a course when it became available.
- Thinks being a referee is sometimes underappreciated.
- Says people give him more respect when they experience his passion for the sport first-hand.
- Thinks the Netherlands moving to a single governing body for fightsport is a good development.
- Was out of it for a bit after Plazibat landed that punch on him.
- Initially didn't want to swap with another ref due to his ego.
- Says he saved Cookie from punishment, because he didn't have his guard up lol.
- Says he stumbled and fell a couple of events after Collision 5 and felt worse about that than being hit by Plazibat lol.
Pretty fun talk and probably (?) the last one of the year.
