Went 0/4 in my semifinal predictions. I still maintain my logic for the pics was sound! Not very high quality fighting so far tho.

To be fair it's a badly timed event for Western viewers and barely anyone knows where this can be watched to begin with. Enfusion has no such excuses .

Polish commentator guy Daniel said officials told Turynski to not take off the taping. Definitely no reserve fight then, there was some confusion over it. Tho, the fight order more or less already meant the remaining HW fight wasn't likely a reserve fight.

I thought that whole thing played out weirdly. They should have just made the K-Jee fight a reserve bout. Tournaments need it.
Think Schiavello was speculating about Karimian being injured as well.

Karimian should be disqualified.

Not at all surprised Sattari lost and Ce made the semis. I predicted that. Absolutely surprised Karimian and Machado are in the semis. The quality of the fights isn't particularly surprising either.

This whole Istrate/Karimian situation is dreadful.

Sattari not standing a chance with these big guys was a given, but I'm not familiar with Ce so he's a nice surprise.

Istrate absolutely running over Sattari... Just erase all the post-FEG K-1 openweight history. I think everything that happened at -90kg/cruiserweight has been legit enough, but yeah Sattari should never try to fight legitimate heavyweights again. Some smaller guys like Manhoef and Kaoklai were able to pull it off, but it's rare.

Immediate thoughts:
The Good + I find it hard to put an 'overall' as this card was the definition of 'all over the place', but despite its messy parts I think this was an okay event. + In terms of length and pacing, I much preferred this over the ~25 fight cards K-1 has been pumping out. I don't know if it will, but this should become the new standard. I just feel vindicated, because I've been bitching about card length a lot. + All things considered it's a good this card was available for free. There was too much of an 'experiment' factor attached to this for it to cost money. + Was a bit sceptical about Schiavello returning, but I ended up liking him: "More combinations than a Sudoku puzzle." + Production for this was on point. + Liu Ce was a great surprise. At his size he's gonna struggle against legit heavyweights, but it was fun seeing his insane happiness when he won the final. + Kaneko/Kumura was a solid fight and carried this event in terms of quality. + Referee gets knocked down by Karimian, refs that WCW soap opera of a fight until the final bell. + Lower weight portion of the card reliably delivering mostly quality. + Liu Ce unexpectedly dropping Bordianu for the count in the very first round. + Karimian weathering Jemai's early onslaught and being able to represent K-1's own tournament hopefuls decently. + Jemai coming out to Naruto music. + Istrate stomping Sattari in the first round. I like Sattari, but he's a middleweight who definitely shouldn't compete above 90kgs.
The Bad - The tournament turned into a mess during Istrate/Karimian. While I feel Karimian should have been disqualified, I get trying to salvage the situation somehow and the staff and corners definitely had their hands full getting to the final bell. - The biggest negative would have to be the whole stream availability mess. It's cool that we ultimately got the event for free on YouTube, but it was badly announced and it shouldn't be undersold how big of a screw-up this was. - Still no 5 round title fights. - K-jee losing the what, 4th time in a row now? Sure, the fight was set up for him to lose, but Ueda isn't exactly unbeatable. K-jee needs to ask himself if he really wants this anymore. It's depressing to see a guy who put Karimian to sleep not too long ago just lose to everybody now. - While Istrate was in the right, I didn't like how he kept milking the situation. He was about to go down and tried to find a way out. - Karimian is a dirty fighter. Twice he's kicked an opponent clearly in the groin, saw their reaction and then threw a highkick, repeatedly threw blows to the back of the head of his opponents and to top it off he kept fighting after the bell and ended up knocking down the ref Plazibat style. He should have been disqualified right then and there. This is not the first time Karimian showing being unable to behave. - For whatever reason it not being considered necessary to have a reserve bout for the tournament, when there was a fight in place to serve that role. - Nutshot free-for-all during Gunji/Martinos. - Machado/Turyński was a dreadfully slow clinchfest by two fighters clearly past their prime. Turyński's unorthodox style made it worse.
Additional notes * Istrate walking out after Ce implies his team either had trouble patching him up or talking some sense into him. * As bad as it was, the kind of drama we saw here did remind me of K-1 events of the past. For better or worse, people will be talking about this. * Woke up and tuned in during the Sugawara fight, so I still have the opening portion to catch up to.

My final thoughts are that for all intents and purposes this should be considered a test run and learning moment for K-1. They have a few key things to work on: - Get their broadcasting deals in order. - Get better heavyweights. - Have the referees be less lenient, period. - Make non-tournament title fights 5 rounds already.
