Props to Karaev fan from sherdog for this:
Very good choice of words, one of my all-time favorites in the division when he was at the top of his game.
He probably - at least in my eyes - holds the single most impressive victory at 70kgs.
Hi to everbody, this is Sato Yoshihiro from Aichi the Prefecture that knows love.
Thank you all very much for the support in Krush.54 the other day.
In that fight against Jordan Pikeur, I stepped up to the ring in my best condition and did the best I could.
Unfortunately, results did not follow and I was KO'd in the 2nd round.
I was hoping to win here comfortably and generate momentum for the K-1 tournament on July 4th.
The K-1 staff told me that "if Sato-kun wants to fight, we'll support you to the extent of our abilities"
I want to thank them for their kind words.
Leading up to this fight, I had a feeling that I was still getting so much stronger. But in the fight itself, I showed that I had gotten weaker in some areas. I was surprised myself.
After the fight, I was conflicted on whether I wanted to participate in the tournament or not. But I didn't want to cause the fans or the K-1 staff any problems by sitting on the fence so I contacted Komori-kaicho and manager the day after the fight.
Thus, I will be taking the liberty of withdrawing from the K-1 tournament.
Considering my personality, I would have participated in the event if I really wanted to fight from the bottom of my heart.
I had no right to step up the moment I hesitated.
In addition, I will be canceling every fight I had scheduled in the future.
Since my professional debut when I was 17, I've never stopped taking a step forward, but for now please consider this to be a punctuation mark. I'm proud of myself that I've continued fighting for so long. Over a career of 80 fights, I've never been more than half a year without fighting and most of those fights have been against incredible opponents. For me that is a mark of honor.
While I'll be stepping back from the front lines for now, I want to support K-1 in its further development in many areas.
Of course, I will be going to watch the tournament on July 4th. And I will be tweeting about the results.
Fans, I hope to see you in the audience.
It will be a great event because of the new generation of fighters.
I changed my life because of K-1. I hope to watch on as K-1 turns around the lives of the new generation without turning an eye blind. It is a little sad that I cannot be there as K-1 revives itself. However, this is a truth of the world of combat. An aging lion who cannot hold onto his position has to leave.
So for now, thank you all.
I want to give my deep, deep appreciation to everyone who's supported me.
Till now and from now, I wish you well.
Now lets go!
