Will the world title be up for grabs in the tournament or is there a separate tournament belt? Urabe hasn't had the most auspicious reign so far...

Will the world title be up for grabs in the tournament or is there a separate tournament belt? Urabe hasn't had the most auspicious reign so far... The way they set it up in the 65kg tournament was that the winner of the tournament wins an actual title shot vs. the defending champ (which was a moot point because Kaew killed everyone). Lineup and brackets will be announced for the tournament fighters in a press release on Jul 3rd! Looking forward to seeing who they bring on. Confirmed so far - Urabe Hirotaka - Taiga - Johannes Wolfe Probably in - Urabe Koya - Paulo Tebar Would like to see Javier Hernandez get the call up again. Maybe a Bennoui too.

Gotta say as much as I love what K-1 Japan is doing I feel like the schedule with multiple 8 man tournaments in a short space of time must be pretty gruelling. I wouldn't mind seeing the Japan tournaments split between 2 events or just be 4 man brackets.

K-1 presser ongoing now.
Amateur news: - New season of K-1 Koshien kicking off in July. Three divisions (55kg, 60kg, 65kg), the finalists will be facing off in the November K-1 event - New K-1 College division is created - A seperate amateur tournament (probably Kids or Adults division) to be held in August - A host of Taiwanese kickboxers will be sending in a delegation to K-1 Koshien and College
Pro news: - 60kg Tournament lineup is as follows -- Reserve fight: Toshi vs Koji (random girls started squealing when Koji was announced for some reason. Koji flipped Toshi off and Toshi pretended he was pointing to something) -- Semi-final 1: Taiga vs Javier Hernandez (Ooh, they had my interest now they have my curiosity) -- Semi-final 2: Urabe Hirotaka vs Johannes Wolfe -- Semi-final 3: Urabe Koya vs Karim Bennoui -- Semi-final 4: Komiyama Kosuke vs Paulo Tebar
Koji spoiled the fact that Komiyama was in the tournament in a Q&A ('What do you mean that loser who dropped a fight vs. some unknown Chinese is in the tournament and I'm not') before he was announced.

First batch of superfights announced
Kaew Weerasakreck vs Yamazaki (65kg Title Fight) Takeuchi 'Madfist' Yuji vs Hayashi Kenta (62.5kg Super Fight) Uehara Makoto vs KOICHI [formerly Koichi Pettas] (Heavyweight Super Fight)
You know you're a dominant champ when you've beat everyone to the extent that they have to drag back the first guy you beat. Takeuchi is a good talent to rope in for them, fun fight.

Takeuchi's fight with Noiri way back when was fucking nuts and I've been wondering where he's been since. Looking forward to it.

Takeuchi's fight with Noiri way back when was fucking nuts and I've been wondering where he's been since. Looking forward to it. He took a 2-3 hiatus after a nasty KO loss to Kimura Philip Minoru. Fun fighter still though. Sorta like Yuki in that he never had the holistic kickboxing acumen to be a long-reigning champ, but the weapons to KO top fighters here and there

K-1 moving up back up in Japanese mainstream media. These big features in sports newspapers brings back memories The countdown has begun. This one is pretty difficult to watch what with it being on Monday and all (will be airing Midnight US pacific time), but I'll be looking forward to it. Hope others will watch live too

Kaew got the mumps and had to pull out. Yamazaki will instead be fighting Gonnaper Weerasakrek.
Sad, but a decent replacement. Gonnaper has fought quite a few times in Japan before (he's 12-1 vs. Japanese fighters including Umeno, Yasuyuki, Kenta, Mizuochi, T-98). They were trying to promote him as the next Kaew-like Japanese killer, so we'll see how that pans out for them
