You can see Uehara has trouble with this somewhat more natural heavyweight in Koichi after having fought some blown up lighter guys in his past few fights. Yeah, not being able to bumrush Koichi. As much hate as we gave Koichi, to his credit he did survive JLB once. Sloppy, but this is top level so far as Japanese 80kgers go. Sad I think Uehara is pretty good, but he probably shouldn't fight above light heavyweight. I wish Kyotaro would return to kickboxing, but he's doing too well in boxing at the moment for that to happen anytime soon.

Kensaku Maeda probably hoping that Kyotaro loses and crawls back to team dragon. Gonnapar looks game despite being short notice.

Yamazaki scores a quick knockdown on Gonnaper halfway through round 1. Gonnaper returns the favor a minute later. This is a really fun fight!

Man, Yamazaki looked like he didn't want to be there in round 2.

I like Gonnapar, His kick aggression and general frumpiness reminds me of a rough Yod.

Poor Yamazaki, he looked lost after round 1.

Apparently he tore some sort of tendon in the 1R. Ouch, sad for Yamazaki, but good for Gonnapar. Bring in more Thais!

Gonnapar takes the Unanimous Decision. While it must be extra sour to lose against a (late) replacement, Gonnapar is no joke. Yamazaki looks to be stumbling on the way to backstage.

I still don't understand why he retired as young as he did. Granted he lost 3 or 4 fights in a row - some unnecessary defeats in there as well - but he was still at an age where he could turn everything around and become one of very few legit big Japanese names. I guess he didn't feel like becoming the next Tsuyoshi Nakasaki, another talent who was thrown to the wolves too quick and often.
