Fight of the year has to be Duut vs Ilunga. Upset of the year I would say Gonapar over Yamazaki. Fighter of the year I would say Sittichai. Breakout fighter of the year: Kyriklia. KO of the year: Kyriklia's knee KO of Wilnis after doing it to two other guys. Comeback: cant think of one. Controversy: Buakaw vs Long II. Event: The Rico vs Badr triple card. Story: cant think of one.

My picks:
- Fight(s) Of The Year Tobe Ryuma vs. Elias Mahmoudi - Just one of many great K-1 Japan fights we got to see in 2016. Mohamed Jaraya vs. Nordin Ben Moh - While we do give Enfusion a lot of (justified) crap, this was a great fight. Danyo Ilunga vs. Michael Duut - Most of us didn't expect this fight to go the distance, but I'm glad it did.
- Upset(s) Of The Year Nieky Holzken VS Cédric Doumbé - My prediction of Holzken ending this quickly couldn't have been more off. Joe Schilling VS Hisaki Kato II - I expected Schilling to at least win the kickboxing fight.
- Fighter(s) Of The Year Roman Kryklia - 9 fights, 9 wins, 5 KO's, mostly against notable names. Israel Adesanya - 7 fights, 6 wins, mostly against notable names.
- Breakout Fighter(s) Of The Year Jason Wilnis - From inconsistent to middleweight champion, good year for Wilnis! Roman Kryklia - He was on the radar before, but his K-1 95kg GP win really put him on the map. Cédric Doumbé - When he beat Groenhart I thought it was a fluke. When he beat Holzken I learned it wasn't. Israel Adesanya - Already very busy - mainly in China - for a while, now taking names in Glory and scheduled to face Wilnis. Matt Embree - Guy comes out of nowhere and wins the Glory FW contender tournament and is now scheduled to face RvR.
- Knockout(s) Of The Year Tenshin VS Wanchalong
Crazy spinning back kick KO from an 18 yr old kid to the reigning Lumpinee champion.
Joe Schilling VS Hisaki Kato II
Man did Schilling go down hard (again).
- Comeback(s) Of The Year Jason Wilnis - From being inconsistent in 2014 and 2015 to coming back with 4 straight wins in 2016 AND Glory Belt. Michael Duut - After being away for a while Duut comes back and takes revenge in a real barnburner of a fight.
- Controversy(s) Of The Year Levin VS Marcus III - Just the way this whole thing played out was awful from start to finish. Ismael Londt VS Hesdy Gerges II - Gerges got royally screwed. Sitthichai Sitsonpeenong VS Robin van Roosmalen II - Funny, because their first fight caused most controversy in 2015. Hesdy Gerges VS Guto Inocente - Judges do not like Hesdy. Ibrahim El Boustati VS Filip Verlinden - Verlinden got screwed, but fortunately the results was overturned. Unfortunately, El Boustati and Enfusion still act like it wasn't.
- Event(s) Of The Year K-1 Japan - 60kg World Grand Prix Tournament - But seriously, you can swap this with any other K-1 Japan 2016 event. Glory 35 - Nice - Just a great event allround. KNOCK OUT vol.0 - The new Japanese rival of K-1 Japan came out with a huge debut event.
- Story(s) Of The Year Rico VS Badr - Internationally, this fight got more attention than anything else happening in the sport in 2016. Unfortunately, the main portion of the event just didn't deliver.
I don't want to give the following a category as it would feel a bit morbid to me, but I wanted to give a mention to the fighters we have lost in 2016: Marc de Bonte Nokweed Davy Might have missed to mention a few, but this goes out to all those that we lost of course.
I haven't seen nearly all the events and probably forgot a lot of what I did see, but as it stands these are my picks! I hope Steven (lordgaul) will do another highlight video to summarize 2016.
