Wish we saw Plazibat against someone little more of a known challenge. Do a rematch against Sergej Maslobojev (his last loss says wiki) or something. Another ~95kg guy they could use as a smaller hw going forward also if they want to keep them on the smaller side. Probably wouldn't be too expensive and the KOK guys historically been very cooperative with K-1. Little continuation of my hatred towards all things K-1 Japan HW ...but still it's a fine card that's just one fight. They do so well with the lighter guys and would be nice if it was the same here and it's noooooooooot. Hope after this we see something of slightly higher quality.

The appeal of this fight is more due to who both fighters represent over their skillset: Antonio Plazibat is Branko Cikatic's protegé while Roel Mannaart is Andre Mannaart's son. Cikatic defeated Mannaart Sr. in the quarterfinals of the 1994 K-1 WGP and this is a next generation revenge match of sorts. It's a great storyline that K-1 could create some hype for if they allocate at least some resources to promote it. It's the K-1 Japan version of Rocky's protegé and Apollo's son Creed fighting against Drago's son in Creed II. Having said that, Plazibat is a lot better than Mannaart and as mentioned before I don't like Mannaart's chances. He will really have to step up his game to be a challenge to Plazibat. In terms of competitiveness the better move would have been either Plazibat vs. El Bouni II and/or Mannaart vs. Uehara as a title eliminator. Just watched Creed on the plane. It was fucking awesome, though some of the fight scenes were a bit slapstick in how exaggerated the exchanges were. If K-1 wants to play up the legacy route, both Aerts and Kraus were in Japan recently with their kids doing amateur bouts.

I think you guys are being a bit harsh on Mannaart. He's not *great* but I don't think that he's bad, either.

Since it directly affects this card I guess this belongs in here as well: I hope it doesn't amount to anything serious. Either way, looking forward to the finalized card! The new rumor I'm hearing is the Try Hard gym is going to drop out of K-1. So Taiga vs Takeru cancelled and possibly Gonnapar vs Rukiya out as well. We should know within next few days. The source isn't great, so I'm giving this maybe 20-40% likelihood. So this confirms it: www.k-1.co.jp/news/27341/This blows. I wonder what's behind all this? Who started stirring the pot and where will the TRY HARD GYM fighters end up? KNOCK OUT? Glory? China? Scattered?

So Taiga is from team Try Hard? Maybe set up Takeru vs the guy who just beat Stauros.

So Taiga is from team Try Hard? Maybe set up Takeru vs the guy who just beat Stauros. Try Hard has Hiroya (gym representative), Taiga (Hiroya's brother), Anpo brothers (Rukiya and Riku), Matsukura Shintaro and Horio (former Krush champ). That guy (Komiyama) is already booked to fight Gosyu, but yeah he could be swapped out... K-1's gonna have a final presser on the card by tomorrow, so we shall see. Kimura has been non-stop retweeting fans who have been begging to have him on the card and favoriting tweets by Try Hard guys who've been complaining, so we'll see where he ends up.

Everything is fine guys. Here comes Kimura to save the day
New additions
Superfight - Kido Yasuhiro vs Issam Chahid - Kimura Minoru vs Hirayama Jin (also worth noting that Kimura is now with Kubo Kenji's K-1 team Kings now)
Preliminary - Yokoyama Takumi vs Oiwa Tatsuya - Toushi vs Hayato - Hara Shouta vs Kondo Kaisei - Ruku vs Kato Kona
Takeru's opponent TBC.

The Try Hard gym stuff is insanely frustrating but that is a serious promotional rabbit to pull out of a hat. Stauros said on twitter that he was training for a fight on the 17th, I hope he's able to pull out of that.

That's a whopper of an update. I've updated the OP, but expect K-1 to do a bit of reshuffling with the order of fights, since the website has a bit of a weird order listed npw that the card was updated.
Maybe they'll take out a fight here or there, because as it currently stands we sit on a total of 25 fights. I wonder if K-1 ever had a card this large.
It's rare that after last minute changes to a card you end up with one that looks better than it did before, but here we are. I just hope that it delivers.
BTW, perhaps you can clarify this karaevfan; is Sano Junpei vs. Matsumura Hideaki an undercard bout or the tournament reserve?

BTW, perhaps you can clarify this karaevfan; is Sano Junpei vs. Matsumura Hideaki an undercard bout or the tournament reserve? I hear its 19 main card fights (incl. 7 from the GP). Just for comparison the last GP held by FEG was 10. We thought they had stacked the deck for their first Saitama card and that was 14. The tournament reserve (which I think is still an undercard) is Yokoyama vs Oiwa, which has been elevated. Matsumura vs Sano is a new addition. Interesting thing about that is that K-1 Japan did their TUF type reality show with different 'legend' fighters (Masato, KID, Ogawa/Kohi, Takeru) putting up a candidate and Matsumura won the tournament. He got $30K in prize money alongside a contract with K-1.

The schedule on the K-1 site lists 24 fights unless I'm counting wrong, so uh good luck to American viewers

I can't even fathom the answer because it's probably just a shrug.
