Oh, wow, K-1 Global news. Apparently Mr. Kim was so embarrassed by Cro Cop and Orsat continually making fun of him in public that he stepped down from any position of power. He's been a road block to the K-1 name since he purchased it and has left a series of potential lawsuits and sour feelings in his wake. www.facebook.com/mirkocrocop7777/photos/rpp.466911916686844/1895083400536348/?type=3&theaterHe still owns it, but yeah, he has completely recused himself from anything else. It's hard to overstate just how much he fucked things up. Pierre Andurand attempted to buy the K-1 name initially. You know why Kim told him to take a walk? Andurand came to their meeting on a private helicopter. Kim found it to be disrespectful. Remember K-1 in China? Hunan TV offered to buy a portion of K-1 to run weekly shows. They even started building an infrastructure there to run these shows. But guess what? Kim didn't want to yield any of his ownership to them and wanted them to instead pay him per show, which they weren't comfortable with. Remember K-1 Thailand? Buakaw and his team walked out in a planned stunt in a show that was ENTIRELY paid for by the local Thai promoters that wanted to bring K-1 back. Those promoters paid $500,000 for that show, all Kim had to pay for was the belt. Kim blamed the promoters and his management team for 'conspiring' against him when Buakaw walked out. What about K-1 Japan? When K-1 Japan started gaining steam they were approached about a television deal that would yield $100k per show. Mr. Kim's response? "K-1 Japan is shit." LOL. K-1 had a media distribution deal with Fighting Spirit, who handle most major combat sports brands in Europe and have a great track record. What happened there? Kim felt that they were conspiring against him! Literally everyone who worked for him is owed money and Kim absolved himself of paying them by claiming that they somehow swindled or betrayed him in some way, like that is somehow legally-binding.

Lol, Kim complaining about disrespectful behaviour is pretty rich: I'd say not paying anyone ever is pretty disrespectful.
Having said that, in the end I'm happy Kim blew all those promotions (other than K-1 Japan) off. Imagine if what we know as Glory today would be called K-1. I'd absolutely hate that. It's even further removed from FEG K-1 than K-1 Global, even if they have an infinitely healthier business model. Say what you want about Andurand having sincere intentions and what not, he does come off as an absolute sleazeball to me. And even if they're at least Asian countries, the same goes for China and Thailand: I wouldn't want K-1 being anything other than Japan based (which doesn't mean I don't want shows outside of Japan as well).
I just hope K-1 Japan has a healthy future and can somehow take full control now that Kim appears to be officially stepping down.

I've interacted with Pierre a lot and he seems fine.
If you are friends with me on Facebook you know where I'm gonna go with this, but man, I have a problem with the mega-rich. Sure, I know a bunch of them because of this dumb sport and some are just really nice guys, but they still have more wealth than impoverished nations and spend most of their time doing luxury things, not "working hard" for their money. I get it, once you accumulate that wealth you don't need to do shit, but they're still making money and still spending it on ridiculous shit, like, say, kickboxing promotions.
The people that know how to promote the sport aren't the wealthy, these are just the guys that toss money at it and insert their own ideas and beliefs into what should happen and gum up the works.
Such a strange, parasitic relationship.

Mirko is a true legend. I can only hope at this point that Kim falls into such financial despair that he's forced to part with the name completely. Pierre, China, the shadowy figures running K-1 Japan, I don't care who the new owners are. Just release the brand,

I've had some dealings with the Korean film and TV industry, and there are a bunch of guys like Mike Kim who just fuck everything up and leave dogshit and unpaid wages in their wake. The older generation there went from developing to developed country within a generation, and an obsession with money and lack of social safety nets has just really fucked some people up mentally. I would bet money that the concept of "helicopter disrespect" wasn't what pissed him off, it was somebody having more than him.

It'd be interesting to get a peek in to an alternative timeline where Glory got the K-1 name and how would things have been different. If they would've ended up going somewhat how they have now then I'm glad they didn't get it though.
Also...if I had...hmm...couple hundred mil I'd also totally spend it on ridiculous shit like a kickboxing promotion run an awesome successful kickboxing promotion.

Meanwhile in an alternate dimension. Year 9 of the Machida Era. The UFC has signed an exclusive deal to stream their shows on the Glory-1 Fight Pass subscription service. To commemorate their new partnership, the UFC will be reigning champion Sage Northcutt to participate in the MAX Final 16 qualifiers in Shanghai. He is expected to face undefeated 3 weight MAX champion HIROYA.

Kim worked for a game publisher prior and was forced out of the company by family. They literally bought K-1 *for* him just as a weird "no hard feelings" parting present and you can see why they wanted him out. The helicopter thing has always struck me as hollow. I've interacted with Kim and if you somehow "shame" him in any way he's fucking done. He'll close up. It's ridiculous. He can disrespect anyone and everyone else, though.

That explains a lot though, I did wonder how this Mr Magoo ass dude was successful enough in business to have enough money to buy a company when all evidence was that he's limitlessly terrible at it

Are they even going to do anything at all for Kim's stepping down to have any meaning? LoL
What an embarrassment Kim's reign was. Looks like miscmisc was right from the start writing that he's likely another shady character.

The current person in charge -- I forget the name -- has been trying to shop the product around at Sportel and the likes, but I'm not sure that there is a product to sell. Is there? Ned, who produced all of their shows for them on a shoestring budget has his own promotion in Serbia with the team K-1 worked with there and they seem a lot happier not having Kim's involvement and are doing fine without the K-1 name.
