Scalpers truly are among the lowest lifeforms.
Hope at least some ended up getting the shit kicked out of them.
Edit: Also extremely poor foresight and planning by whoever put this exclusive Pokémon card promotion together.

Yeah, that scene shouldn't be happening in 2023. Scalping is the rawest, unsexiest form of good old capitalism, so if you have done nothing to prepare yourself for that force of nature, you've kinda only got yourself to blame.

I had to rewatch the Republican debate, LOL, FUCKING GREAT, and damn it somehow managed to get even dumber than the first viewing.
Man, those people don't even have the zeal or religious conviction of libertarians, yet parrot those free-market-solves-everything-somehow lines as if the Tea Party were still going on. They have no fucking idea what they are talking about. It's even beyond the issue of Left and Right, man. The level of their economic ignorance is so embarrassing.
Their half-assed mindless free-market pseudo-worship is entirely vibe-based, and entirely tautological. Tim Scott and Nicky Haley in particular were the worst, and it's no coincidence that they are both from South Carolina. Being a conservative in South Carolina means that you don't actually have to think about anything. Parroting centuries-old talking points is all you need to do, and as a result you truly don't know what the fuck you are talking about. It's entirely different from being a serious libertarian in Austin, you know.
And the dumbest fuck was actually Vivek Ramaswamy. That guy talked about the "victimhood mentality," of all things, in his discussion about the UAW strikes. Yeah, unfortunately that's where our contemporary right-wing ideology is at. It's dumbed down to the level of the dumbest American cartoon/Japanese anime that you could think of. It's an juvenile-as-fuck world of the survival of the fittest.
The old right-wingers at least understood it as the struggle - or even war - between capital and labor, because that's precisely what it is. But the likes of Ramaswamy have no sense of society or even history that they genuinely believe that winners-victims crap is the driving force of the human civilization. Like I said, no wonder he's a Brahmin.
It's in a way hilarious that they have to do that stupid dance routine because the GOP is now a "working-class party," you know. It's such a stupid display of awkwardness and incoherency that it's really hard to watch. It's like watching a bunch of old men who know none of the basic modern dance moves try to dance to a K-Pop song on stage. It's a torture.
Those people are just absolutely fucking embarrassing. In the face of such overwhelming stupidity that nonetheless has such huge political power, I can't find time or energy to criticize our contemporary liberalism. I fucking hate this timeline.

Like, this is the norm today. You imagine the dumbest cunt imaginable, and they will do their best to exceed your expectations.
And, nah, I don't even have the energy to go IN A VAN DOWN THE RIVER with this. Not funny anymore. Chris Farley would vomit.

Anti-anti-Putin crowd on the left. The ones on the right are clowns that I would rather ignore, but the ones on the left are just sad. So, I guess it's a wrong answer because I don't find them "annoying" per se.
I just thank God for the intellectual freedom that I have. I can never be completely free from tribalism, but merely imagining myself defending Russia's actions now feels pretty awful. I'm so glad I don't have to do that due to the tribal obligation/necessity to make a living in a tribe.

This is a fucking cool new venue, but the fact that U2 was chosen to open it is very indicative of where we are at now culturally.
I mean, U2? It's pensioners' music.

I thought McCarthy would go down first - or at least second after Cantor - way back when, so would congratulate the fool on hanging onto it for this long. Only to end up being one of the biggest jokes in the history of US politics, but that's where that spineless narcissist was destined to end up no matter what anyway.

This video clip has been quoted a lot online as if there were anything interesting or deep about it, but this is just a captain obvious answer to a dumb question. This famous professor sounds like someone explaining why car accidents are bad. Anyone with a brain can come up with a similar answer, along the line of "I think Germany was a very developed country in 1945, and comparing that to Afghanistan is kind of dumb?"
I don't know. Some "expertises" are indeed kind of dumb.

LMAO, Americans imported the Soros hysteria from Europe. Everything about it has the very typical European antisemitism signature on it. It started in Central/Eastern Europe decades ago.

Seems that this thread really is the "miscmisc rant thread", as it completely dies without him. The rest of us are obviously not very rant-inclined! Or maybe there are just so many things to rant about these days that it's too overwhelming to pick... I will have a go though. It's been 4 months since the Hamas attack, and now Israel has killed over 20 times that number of Palestinians and reduced Gaza to rubble. What I don't understand, is why does the US offer so much support to Israel to do this? What do they gain? Is it just because they consider Israel as their outpost in the Middle East that must be protected at all costs? Or that they are a good customer to feed the military-industrial complex? If anyone wants a good write up of what has been happening in Gaza: www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v46/n03/tom-stevenson/rubble-from-boneAnyway, I hope miscmisc is ok and he will be back to rant again one day.

While I don't have a worthwhile answer to your question, I think a lot of Americans (and other Westerners) in powerful positions have Jewish roots. And they happen to be the Pro-Israel/Zionist types, not the ones that protest against the Israeli government.
Aside from that it probably boils down to what most things in life boil down to: power/money.
What frustrates me most about this whole situation is the whole Western world branding anyone even hinting at support for Palestine an antisemite. How dare people speak out against the slaughter of innocent civilians!?
Jews/Israelis are always the victims, even when they're the ones committing genocide in the name of self-defense.

And they happen to be the Pro-Israel/Zionist types, not the ones that protest against the Israeli government. While it's true that the Israel lobby has very outsize amount of power in the US, the trouble with this line of reasoning is it gets close the actual antisemitic trope of 'the Jews rule the world'. Biden does not have Jewish roots (I don't think any US president has), yet he has been a huge enabler of Netanyahu - even though they are not politically aligned and Netanyahu clearly wants Trump back!
As you say, these things usually come down to money and power. But Biden is now risking losing some states in the next election due to the number of Muslim voters he is alienating. So he is now risking power for the sake of arguably supporting genocide.
