What do u guys think, will Roy stand a chance to win the cruiserweight title? He still has his speed and power, but lacks his reflexes, his defense and chin are questionable now, although he compensates it with good techniques. He is 46 right now and is on 8 fights win streak and his last 5 fights are all wins by K.O. His next fight is after 3 days against fighter with wikipedia page this time! Danny Santiago, who is coming from a K.O. loss 1 year ago, he lacks size and is 42 yo with 41 pro fights so far.

I worry about RJJ. I can't think of too many fighters, if any, who were blessed with the physical gifts that he had. Sadly, that last bit was definitely meant in the past tense. Those gifts have suffered major erosion, his ability to withstand a solid punch and absorb punishment are only going to recede and he has suffered in the past 10 years with a neurological problem or problems. He talks a lot about a cruiserweight title run but realistically his recent run of opponents don't really have the looks of a fighter who is trying to make a genuine run towards a title. The current champions in that division would likely all finish him inside the distance or at the least give him a one sided battering until the end of the fight, which is the last thing that is needed. Denis Lebedev, the current WBA champ has already knocked Roy spark out, back in 2011. It was a horrible finish, for those who haven't seen it. It is a testament to the man that at the age of 46 he can still compete and win against fighters who are considerably younger than him in most cases. His matches have been well chosen for the past 4 years, it must be said, but quite honestly, rightly so. I wouldn't wish to see him against a Top 30 fighter ever again.
He is embarking on something akin to a UK tour both this month and next month, with the September event culminating in a fight. Interestingly, this scheduled show has not been sanctioned by the British Boxing Board Of Control in effect making it an unlicensed event. I believe this may be because Roy knows he would be unable to obtain a BBBC licence or would struggle to get one due to the fact that he would have to 'pass' a series of brain scans and examinations. I may be wrong on this.
He has a good gig as the expert summariser alongside heavy hitters Max Kellerman and Jim Lampley for HBO and is making his bones as a trainer, having recently worked with Jessie Vargas up until this summer. He doesn't need to fight, he just does it because he loves it and I think these title winning proclaimations are done really so we think "Oh, look. Roy Jones Jr is still about, what's he up to? Still fighting?" and we watch out of curiosity. He loves the eyeballs.

I never knew until now for his neurological problems. This is serious brain injury ...
But for me, the thing with RJJ is his ego and his need to always prove himself.
It all started since that loss in the Olympics. It was like "Ok, they robbed me in the Olympics, now i will show them how great i am when i brake Marciano's undefeated record in my pro carrier i will go 50-0". Then the DQ loss to Griffin ended that dream.
The new thing was "Ok, they robbed me again and ruined my record, now i will show them how great i am when i become heavyweight champion of the world. No former middleweight has done that in 100 years". He achieved it.
The new thing was "Ok, that loss was "DQ", every one knew that i didn't loss that night + i revenged it in 1 round. I am 48-1 now ... only two more wins till 50 and i retire". Well ... Tarver ended that dream in Roy's last step to his goal.
The new thing was "Oh, i got beaten up by K.O. Terrible ending for my carrier. I have to avenge it!". He never did it.
The new thing now is "Oh, okay, i will prove them how great i am now by becoming the 45+ yo champion of the world in weight class that i never captured title before."
Without a doubt - this is very bad for his health. But RJJ has always been a soldier, he cannot feel happy, without his battles for new lands. Dead, before dishonor.

Bernard Hopkins goes speechless when he hears about the plans of RJJ in recent interview. It's hilarious, i see him puzzled for first time, he is normally a guy that won't stop talking and talking and talking and talking, but they caught him here VIDEO
