I don't disagree that Enfusions claims of "huge losses" are insane when they probably had a flimsy verbal agreement at best and no work at all having been put into actually organising the event. However, Badr is (probably) the biggest name in kickboxing and his popularity - especially in this corner of the world - is off the charts. I have no doubt he can sell 18k in tickets. No matter who he fights. I mean, I dunno. It's Showtime during the golden years barely drew 20,000. I don't doubt that he's popular and would draw a crowd, but nobody has tried to draw with him on that level in a very long time. It's Showtime in Lyon was in a 10,000 seat arena. GLORY was a 12,000 seat arena. That was with major media pushes in the Netherlands and against the biggest possible name opponent still on the market. Enfusion is running venues that can fit a few hundred people at best, occasionally a bit bigger, but not much. GLORY couldn't sell out an arena with Robin van Roosmalen or Nieky Holzken in the Netherlands and while they aren't on Badr's level, they have had constant media attention.

He is huge in europe. In romania for example he has always been more popular than Ghita, Lungu, Ciobanu and catinas COMBINED. He is only second to Morosanu who is top 5 national celebrity, though most of the people don't take morosanu seriously as a fighter and are more interested to see him in reality shows. If hari comes to romania to fight someone , he will probably fill a 30k stadium without much problems, more than morosanu or any romanian fighter ever. I don't think he will have much problems to fill 18k in belgium where half a million of moroccans live.

While I hear your point, I don't think the comparison holds up anymore. Regardless of how popular Badr was 5+ years ago, it's probably negligible compared to how popular and well known he is right now - in spite of not having been very active. Kickboxing as a whole has become a lot more popular and mainstream over here over the past two years or so and Badr became a mainstream name since the moment he had a relationship with Estelle Gullit and beat up Koen Everink. In a twisted way it contributed to kickboxing getting more media coverage over here. Sure, it started out with kickboxing being put in a negative daylight (and it still occasionally happens), but that appears to be slowly turning around. It helps that there's now a Dutch champion who has beaten Badr in Rico Verhoeven; it creates a Dutch fanbase in addition to Dutch-Moroccan Badr fans and niche kickboxing fans like us. It also helps that there are a few Dutch fighters who have become - to a degree - media personalities in Remy Bonjasky who regularly appears in late night shows and Nieky Holzken who's had his own reality show. To name another example while zapping through Dutch television yesterday I saw a random commercial for insurance or something that starred Ernesto Hoost. That would have never happened 10 years ago. And still all the other fighters pale in comparison to Badr. Out of all the locals that know who Badr is probably still just a fraction knows Holzken or van Roosmalen.

This might just be the Mandela effect, but didnt Ulianov used to be a kick-heavy counterstiker? He seems to fight more like a pressure fighter now.

Doumbe moving to MMA as well...?
Adesanya makes complete sense and UFC should've signed him much earlier too tbh. Not looked too deeply into Doumbe but that's an absolute mistake on Glory letting him go if so.

Some rounding out the year kb things from the Chinese point of view by gedoumi.com 10 top 2017 events in fighting:Glory debuts in China Wei Rui wins K-1 title Yi Long vs. Sittichai Jack Ma, Jet Li & friends founding that GSD thing non kb ones: fighting orphans story, MMA dude beating the kung fu dude story, May-Mac, UFC Shanghai, Zou Shiming "Regrettable 2017 moments" in Chinese fighting by the same people:Glory debut in China No Chinese stars, no real Chinese highlight moments, the choice of venue. Apparently on-site it felt amateurish. Not enough big screens. Though I guess that could translate as the event itself not feeling very big with the lack of Chinese stars and if the event felt like it was run amateurishly. Verhoeven lost in China, Marcus lost in China and they were the fighters they went there with. Think maybe they're being a bit harsh on the Marcus part as Marcus-Pereira was a quite good China fight. Anyhow, for the next event they should definitely get some more of a highlight for the card. Return of "Sanda King" The first event was a flop. The Chinese fighters went 8-0 against nobodies, ~7 of those fights were like Camozzi-Weickhardt. Just a big waste of time. They were happy about the updating of the rules though, which basically made it kickboxing. Buakaw vs. Yod not happening and the whole MAS whatever it was Qiu Jianliang vs. Kaew not happening This really was a thing that just didn't get to happen when it would've been most relevant in China. Not that it's costing K-1 anything really but just man did they seemingly not get the meaning of this fight at all. Jack Ma, Jet Li & friends GSD thing They seriously are quite down on this. The people involved have so much resources and ability to get mainstream attention. Could do big things in combat sports and then they waste their efforts on this. At least Kunlun is probably financially benefiting from being involved in it it a bit at least
