hmm G52 after the reshuffling has a 4 fight main card. Maybe that could even be a thing going forward? Sitti vs. Grigorian probably getting added. Tuinov probably out. Tournament semi's to SFS and final to G53 proper? Seems like Tuinov is out. I'm not seeing his pic on the G53 website anymore. Anyone knows whats up?

I am pretty psyched about this card which is surprising since it seems some were disappointed at the tournament getting cancelled. Maybe cause I feel super deprived of KB now that Kfesta is over, but I'm looking forward to seeing Zhuravlev and RvR blowing through some guys.

Day or two after the event some Chinese dude who used to work for K-1 China said the gloves/rehydration limit weren't anything he had ever seen in any rules or anywhere. Now they interviewed K-1 China/Global executive director, who checked her info from K-1 Japan, and sorta just confirmed those things aren't in any rules. So now the impression of K-1/Urabe being unfair is basically fact in China since they demanded extra punishments. The morning of the fight weigh-in limit K-1/Urabe seemingly wanted to be 67kg but they managed to negotiate that to 68kg. Wei Rui missed that by weighing in 68.2kg. Urabe was still okay enough with it that the fight happened. Wei Rui or the one person with him in Japan don't speak English or Japanese so the little negotiation there was about the extra punishments was done via the China middleman CFP. He's getting a bit of shit now too since it looks like they just accepted the punishments and he was afraid to risk his own relationship with K-1. Not that it really matters to K-1 Japan but they really fucked their reputation in China with this. Or well, probably hasn't helped their relationship with K-1 China/Global as far as they might need that to work. Yeah no. Wei Ruis's punishments aren't unheard of at all. Yeah the rules themselves only refer to the point deduction, but fighters have been asked to take the exact same punishments (glove change, point deduction) on multiple occasions (e.g. Paulo Tebar, Buvaisar Paskhaev). Its been in place since at least the Krush days and basically is industry practice across kickboxing and boxing. I don't understand this mentality of "I came in overweight, but I'm the victim". Its disgusting when you consider the actually egregious hoops Wei Rui's opponents in China actually are asked to jump through by his promotion

Japan does the same thing. KID Yamamoto had to fight with his shirt on vs. Masato for Kyokugen.
I've seen some Krush guys with tape all around their shoulders. Looks awful

Any predictions for the next K-1 event in June? Which weight class gets the big tournament this time? Its 57.5kg. Takeru was forced to vacate the title when he moved up so they are looking for the "new Takeru" of that weightclass. A presser is going down on Sunday in Japan to announce the tournament field. Prob another Japan 4 vs foreign 4 type deal. From the Japan side, expect Saikyo Haruma (current 57.5kg Krush champ) and Ozawa Kaito (who's coming off a 49 sec KO) to be in the mix for sure. The rumor I'm hearing is also Murakoshi and Ashizawa Ryusei are in. I'd be HIGHLY disappointed if Ashizawa is in. He's a so-so fighter who's dropped a lot of fights and is only in the mix because of his trashtalk. Imagine Koji or Ozawa, just not particularly competent or clever. It would be a shame if Ashizawa is put in the tournament over Asahisa (WLF tournament winner). The foreign isde is harder to pick, but I'd be Elias Mahmoudi is a shoe in

That is a really good fight!
On paper. Lets see how good Ghita looks.
Allazov confirmed vs. Petrosyan. I would be quite infuriated if Bellator pulls off their tape delay bullshit again.

I didn't mind that their production didn't lean at all on anything that has come previously, but I will say the second I saw the cross setup on the screen I was expecting at least a little homage to the old K-1 MAX logo and the Illuminati song. The purple and blue K'Festa branding seems a bit holiday brochure style to me, I guess it makes sense for the spring equinox but I'm not sure if it's supposed to represent that or the weird mascot. I could do without AK-69 next time, but overall I think it's great for kickboxing to have its own yearly big show and not just get the kids table at NYE. Can't wait to see the next one. Speaking of the Illuminati song. The last time someone tried to pull it off as a walkout song, Hiroya got dropped three times by Kimura so I think people think its jinxed

Haha that actually looks really fun! I may finally watch original content on that $20/mth youtube red subscription I've kept running! Merging a bit with fight news, but Hiramoto said this in the post fight presser which I found vaguely reminiscent of something

If you do a tournament, you get one winner and a lot of losers. The long term promotional utility of that then becomes basically zero. i suspect there's going to be some changes coming on the tournament front; they may even be shelved altogether, or spun off into a special product. The message that they produce one winner and three losers is something that is now getting across under the new CEO. If that happens that would be the happiest thing I've heard in kickboxing this year.

I liked the production. Stage, ramp, screens and what's on them, all good. Most promotions that do introductions with the fighters lining up looks pretty crummy but K-1 did that pretty nicely again. Any musical acts usually suck too but this whoever K-1 had did quite well. Gotta disagree with you on the last one. The production values were good, but I was not a fan of that rapper. Though I understand in retrospect why he was there (i.e. basically to hail back Yamazaki) I would have preferred a good old screaming lady here or there. Split on this one. In retrospect he probably should have pulled out since he looked like shit and he had already lost his belt. That said, what did Chinese fans think was gonna happen with him coming in near a kilo overweight? None of the restrictions sound super restrictive (though I have question marks about the not being allowed to rehydrate thing. Thats something I've seen in boxing, but there was no official announcement from K-1 about it. So K-1 either hid that restriction or if the Chinese side is making it up, shady either way). After the Luis Nery nonsense Japan has been so uptight about weight limits so I'm quite surprised they even allowed the fight to go on Post fight presser incoming in 23 mins. I'll post some highlights if there's anything interesting. This was cool though. Abema ratings are the highest ever for a K-1 event

It dipped in the middle, but ended perfectly. Both a Tenshin callout AND an Andy Hug shoutout.
Cheers guys!
