I've heard the phrase "That's like Trump on roids, dude" at least three times before in my daily life, and "Trump on roids" is literally what we are dealing with now. Kind of wild if you think about it.

Update on fools: I wrote the above in this thread at the beginning of September, and these same people are now saying that Biden's got it in the bag, while stressing that it doesn't mean I have been right all along but "Trump getting Covid changed everything." They say it was an unpredictable black swan event that fundamentally altered the course of the election.
Or something utterly stupid like that, when it's obvious that the recent polls - with Biden having a massive lead - changed their mind but they can't admit it as they kept saying, "the polls don't mean shit, remember 2016?"
These morons have zero analytical skills but somehow think they are smart. It would be hilarious if it turns out to be a Trump win now.
I didn't tell you in the post above, but all of them work for major investment banks, BTW. It's these clowns that control your finance.

What's hilarious about Trump is no matter how high he gets and how loudly he goes Rocky Balboa, the fact that he needs both remdesivir and dexy - on top of that strong antiviral drug whose name escapes me - means that he faltered against SARS-CoV-2 a lot more pathetically than most other 74 year old Americans.
One of my mentors is 76 now, an old white man with a heart problem, but he didn't need any of those things when he got Covid back in July.
Judging from the way he breathed after walking up those stairs at the White House, he clearly suffers from hypoxia and needs a long rest to be able to function. He would be in a world of shit right now if he were a regular citizen who could never afford to get even half the treatment that he did.
Immunologically he's a very, very weak man. We have been making all these sacrifices to save weak, vulnerable people exactly like him.

I've talked shit about Pete Buttigieg a number of times in this thread, but he's exceptionally good at being The Democratic Guy on Fox News, not as a goofy loser for the network to own the libs, but as a pretty effective spokesman for his party.
Pete's soft voice, impeccably smooth North Midwestern accent and non-confrontational mannerism can hypnotize even these Fox News orcs, and thus he succeeds in getting his point across every single time. I don't know any other Democrat who can pull this as well as Mayor Pete.

As for the cancellation of the debate, let's get real. Of course Trump wasn't going to have it no matter what. Way too sick to do a live debate virtual or in-person.

Mitch McConnell sending signals to the Republican Senate/House candidates - "You can pretend that you have nothing to with the White House."

I do know this is a rant thread and all but since it's still one of the main topics here, how are you guys now in terms of COVID-19 pandemic? I assume miscmisc is fine since he already went through the infection and is regularly ranting but everyone else?
As for me, I'm still quite fine. Wasn't tested so I can't even tell if I hadn't gotten it already, and since I regularly get mild colds I probably wouldn't even notice the symptoms. I wear masks as a good citizen, for what it's worth. But it will get hectic again with the spike in infection numbers. Hope there won't be any lockdowns at least.

Around May I started getting some mild cold symptoms, random muscle cramps and chest pains. I got tested and it was negative, but now it's October and every now and then the same symptoms pop up. So maybe I got infected at some point and I'm a long hauler, maybe I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, maybe my body is weakening from lack of exercise.
Haven't been to the gym since February. It actually opened up again about two months ago, but I told my trainer I'm not comfortable taking classes right now; we're allowed to punch each other in the face for 90 minutes, but as soon as we walk out the gym we have to maintain our 1.5m/5ft distance again. That's the most backward bullshit I've ever heard.
So what I'm missing is that I haven't really worked out, seen most of my friends and haven't been to a restaurant or movie theater since at least February. I live with relatives so I'm around people every day, but things can get a bit boring even for an introvert like me who enjoys being at home.
Since I'm currently only part-time working remotely I also regularly see my colleagues at the office, but I don't consider any of them friends so I could do without seeing them lol.
There are at least two people I know that passed away from COVID-19; an elderly man (relative of close friends) and a middle aged one (somewhat of a loose acquaintance). The first one actually got infected in a hospital in Belgium, I'm not sure about the second one. A bunch of people I know have gotten sick with symptoms varying from very mild flu-like symptoms to being hospitalized with more serious issues like having trouble breathing.
It's not mandatory here, but I do wear a mask when doing things like grocery shopping or getting some take-out, basically any situation where I'm in a public building.
I'll be happy when there's a vaccine that allows us all to be more comfortable with the idea of roaming around more freely, but at the same time I won't be first in line to get it since there's always that sense of feeling a bit like a labrat. Not that I'm on some anti-vaxxer bullshit, but this situation is unlike any other we've been through in what I consider 'modern' history.

Good to know you're fine, BTW.
Outside of this thread the forum has been pretty quiet this year, but that's somewhat understandable given the lack of events to look forward to.

LOL
It's the Trump side that has the dementia problem all along. You can be a loud, fast-talking dementia case, you know. Dex him on top of that, and the dude has no idea what he's doing.

I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I appreciate it a lot. It would be good to know how everyone is coping. It's been really tough for virtually everyone, and will continue to be for the time being.

False negative is very rare but possible, so you can't definitely say you weren't infected. But Covid-19 really plays with your mind too, so it's really hard to know. But I act like I've never been infected anyway, so on some level it doesn't really matter. I expect the whole thing to get gradually resolved next year, so we should hang in there for a bit more.

FYI, a plurality of Americans think that Trump will win the election. So mine is still a minority opinion.

The majority opinion among Japanese medical professionals pre-pandemic was that facial masks are ineffective against viral diseases.
It's just that they changed their opinion as soon as they recognized the possibility of asymptomatic transmissions back in February. The recent discoveries on the effectiveness of a mask for the wearer are as big a surprise to them as they are to anybody else.
So, it isn't because "It's just part of their culture to wear a mask during flu/cold seasons." Utterly false. Few wear masks because of flu. A lot of "experts" in Europe seem to assert this nonsense.
The #1 reason for mask-wearing in Japan has always been to lessen seasonal allergy primarily caused by pollens, which is a major, major health problem in this country.
