I had an English classmate back in the uni who for four years kept lying to us about where he was from. We thought he was from Manchester, but he was actually from Southampton. He made up all kinds of stories about his Manchester 'hood, and taught us the Manchester accent on one occasion too.
Why did he do that? What's the fucking point? Well, because "it was fun" for him, and there was "no point."
He's now a major conservative operative in London.

Having seen American interviewers feebly let their interviewees repeat the goddamn talking points all day long, I must say there's no wonder English-speaking non-Americans are taking it over in the US media.
Jonathan Swan, an Aussie, fascinated Americans when he embarrassed Donald Trump in the Axios interview. Everyone in the US praises Mehdi Hasan, a rapid-fire British anchor/debater, carpet-bombing his interviewees relentlessly.
They are talented for sure, particularly Hasan, but a big reason for why they stand out is that their American counterparts are jokes.

I'm not a hygiene freak or germaphobe. I'm disgusting in fact. And obviously being Japanese has a lot do with it, but I could really, really do without hand shaking. Not having to do that for months made me realize how much I hated it.
It's one of the few things that I wholeheartedly agreed with Donald Trump on. It's a stupid Western custom.

Really? I always thought of Japanese people as neat freaks. Their streets and (public) places always look super clean, the complete opposite of how a lot of places here look, actually.
As far as handshaking goes, that really is Western. I miss(ed) shaking people's hands and even now still only get it drip-fed under the right circumstances. And I'm not even the most sociable guy as I tend not to like company or people.

Ah, I phrased it poorly. Me being Japanese has a lot to do with me hating handshaking, not with me being disgusting, lol.
Yes, generally speaking, the Japanese are hygiene freaks. Already back in the 7th century the Chinese were documenting how weirdly hygienic those backward people on the remote Eastern islands were.
I'm really disgusting, though. Not a typical Japanese person.

Well, I should speak for myself because AFAIK there is no poll that says the Japanese hate handshaking. I based it entire on the fact that the Japanese are very contact-averse people, but since we don't shake hands nearly as frequently as most of the rest of the world, as we bow instead, obviously it is not exactly natural for us. Which means that we sometimes actually _think_ of the physical reality of handshaking, so to speak. You wouldn't think of the mechanism of walking as you walk, but it would be a different story for creatures for whom bipedal locomotion isn't a natural, instinctive action, you know.
And it is kind of disgusting if you _actually_ think about it. I mean, the biggest problem is that practically speaking you have no freedom to refuse it. I don't want to hold everyone's hand tightly for five seconds.

"I'm not the rude one, YOU are the rude one!" is what Donald said to a guy as he refused to shake hands with him. Who can blame him, though? The guy coughed into his hand, albeit lightly, and then five seconds later proceeded to try to shake hands with Donald.

The short answer is YES.

"Slaps on wrists for the January 6 terrorists."
Way too many people make shit up like this based entirely on their emotion, frustration. If he actually knew what the Department of Justice has been doing, he wouldn't say stupid crap like that.
They are going with serious charges against the ones with decent evidence, and cutting plea deals with the ones with weak evidence. They are going for the maximum punishment for them _within the law and judicial common sense_.
Just because they are not going to hang people for trespassing doesn't mean it's just "slaps on wrists."

If you want to make some money, and can write reasonably well, just tweet relentlessly to repeat the contrarian/baby-libertarian takes of the likes of Bari Weiss and Glenn Greenwald, and draw attention. Then at some point start your own substack.
You won't make nearly as much as the top assholes like BW and GG, but it will be a decent amount. Since the MAGA world is swarming with grifters now and thus a lot more competitive than it used to be, this is where the easy stupid money is right now. The fools who think they are "independent thinkers" can't get enough of it.
Just keep tweeting this kind of crap relentlessly.

I think I'm repeating something that I have said several times before (don't quite remember), but probably for the n-th time:
I know for a fact that Joe Biden personally loathes British elites, Conservatives in particular, but the fact of the matter is that totally regardless of that, the much-discussed UK-USA trade deal is in reality such a tiny policy item that Americans really couldn't care less about it.
Obama is actually a bit of an Anglophile, but his position on the bilateral trade deal with the UK was virtually the same as Biden's.
The only reason you hear a lot about it (if you are English-speaking, that is) is that both the British media and elites are absolutely desperate. It's just not a thing outside that bubble.

I called British Labour leader Keir Starmer a D.C. Centrist Dem think tank product, and this kind of confirms that doesn't it.
Clearly he wants to become the president of the United States by winning a British general election, and will "sign into law" some stuff.

If you are not familiar with the parliamentary system, the prime minister has no authority to "sign" anything "into law."

Ewwwwwwwww, I loathe Holmes, but this is just so... I can't even.
I mean, this gets read aloud in court. That is a huge punishment already.

So, vaccine mandates are ongoing in some sectors in the US, and the mass resignation that they warned us about ain't happening anywhere. You do hear some stories about "many workers" quitting over the mandate, occasionally, but it always turns out that they are waaaaay below 1% of the entire workforce.
So, this is another episode of I Told You So.
