I'm still waiting for your apology for calling me "stubborn," "intolerant," "grumpy leftist" and so on when I kept calling Rudy Giuliani what he always was and is, a fucking idiot.
LOL @ "America's Mayor". What a drunken fool. No, this is essentially who he was when he was younger too. It's just that he's lost self-restraint a bit as a very old man. He was already this barking mad in his head when you people almost got him nominated and possibly elected as president.
No wonder this country elected Donald Trump as president. Absolutely horrible at judging a person's character.

I told you 1,000 times that Zuckerberg is a fucking idiot, but you people value "success" so much that you wouldn't listen. And yes I went to Harvard too and so did Matt Damon thank you for asking.
It's ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE for an idiot to have gigantic success in business. Ruthlessness and luck. An idiot can have both.

These two really are quintessential American idiots.

I don't know how reliable these charts are, but it doesn't look good for the UK. "No longer avoiding large gatherings" seems to be the biggest factor.

I'm concerned about the Covid situation in the UK, but in case you misunderstand it, the US has done MUCH, MUCH WORSE. At least the cases have been markedly decoupled from hospitalizations/deaths so far in the UK, which wasn't and still isn't the case at all in the US. In the last few months alone we lost 100k people in America. 100k. 100,000. What a failure. Not even worth discussing anymore.

I'm concerned simply because what happens in the UK tends to happen in Europe later with some time lag. I guess the difference now is what those charts show, which was not the case before (i.e. Britons were about as Covid-conscious/Covid-careful as Spaniards/French/Italians etc., and apparently aren't now). If we can trust the charts at all, that is.

I just couldn't imagine 80+% of people in England still wearing masks in public spaces even though it's not mandated. Totally unrealistic.

Now that I've watched Chappelle... well, I don't know all the hype around the "controversy" is justified, but it did make me think about how to be honest and funny in comedy. It's tougher to do comedy these days for sure.
Much of American standup comedy genre is about "Let's be honest" and "Let's get it straight." You need to be or pretend to be "honest" to be funny, but only up to a certain point. Above that threshold you start sounding grotesque. Comedians have to waltz around that territory. Chappelle excels at that as a dancer.
As I suspected, he attacked everyone (cops, working-class whites, "space Jews" etc.), therefore not really anyone. I did understand why trans people were particularly upset though, as I did feel the extra vigor and venom when he kept making fun of that group. And I found his gay joke about Mike Pence even more offensive. It made me kind of cringe.
What you should remember is that he is a skillful pro, and by that I mean he is very good at delivering jokes based on opinions that are NOT particularly unique. Dave Chappelle is a unique performer, but NOT a unique voice. His opinions are very, very close to those of the median lower-to-upper-middle black American male.
That generic black American guy is bound to have some shitty reactionary opinions, and Chappelle's "honesty," real or somewhat faked, is very useful to understand that.

I think that's a fair assessment and one I'd be able to largely sign off on.
Generally speaking, whenever there is 'outcry' about something I generally feel like people/media are blowing things way out of proportion.
And some of the venom I definitely attribute to Chappelle getting somewhat fed up with the 'cancellation' attempts he's faced and thus being reactionary, but I still don't believe there's any actual animosity to the community for being different. He's went out of his way to explain his views both during and outside of his performances for me to interpret any of it in a malicious way.
But again, I'm in no position to tell anyone what they should/shouldn't be offended about.

If we can trust the charts at all, that is. Over the past two weeks or so, infection rates have been going up pretty dramatically in the South of the Netherlands (where I live) and people are concerned about the reintroduction of some rules and regulations. Needless to say I'd be fine with it. I still wear a mask in certain situations and am going mostly without touching people outside of my bubble where I know who's vaccinated. Odd outlier earlier this week when a new colleague introduced himself and we shook hands. He definitely caught me off guard and I was drowning my hands in alcohol gel a minute after lol.

Alec Baldwin kills woman by firing prop gun on film set of Rustwww.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/oct/22/alec-baldwin-fired-prop-gun-woman-death-movie-rust-sheriffHorrible, just horrible. Obviously the Brandon Lee incident comes to mind, but this has happened more than once or twice. And I always wonder how something like this can even happen. There have to be either no security protocols in place or a bunch of them have been consecutively missed. How about shooting the fucking thing in a secure staging environment, before it's being used during filming? RIP to that poor woman.

I didn't like shaking hands to begin with. It's going to be really tough for me now. I mean, they pretty much BANNED it in this pandemic! Remember elbow bumps? That means there was a global recognition that you can give some bad stuff to other people through that action. Of course I knew that, you knew that even though you didn't think about it, but the pandemic really hammered it home. Anyway, yes, it seems it's going south in Belgium too. There have been a lot of cases lately. Fortunately the hospitalizations have been largely decoupled from the cases, with the vast majority of the hospital admissions being unvaccinated, but these aren't the kind of figures that can justify a "normal" life regardless.

Director and cinematographer (and editor, in post-production) are the heart of a movie. It's just unbelievable.
