When they say, "TONS of people die of the flu every year too!" what "TONS" means according to the actual data is 20k-50k, in the US.
So even in the worst flu year, w/ no NPIs to speak of and super-low vaccination rates, it's less than 1/10 of Covid w/ NPIs and substantially higher vaccination rates, but what's truly scandalous, beyond the useless endeavor of "owning" the morons, is that we often let as many as 50k people actually die of the flu annually. Given the actual lethality of the regular flu, that should be unacceptable too.

The fact that only one third of people aged 80+ were vaccinated in Hong Kong when Omicron hit them should give you a hint as to how sloppy the Chinese Communist Party can be, and indeed is.

Better late than never, Adam.
The modern GOP has always been a standard reactionary/right-wing party with Tax Cut for the Rich - which was simply easier to sell to the dupes with the transparently bullshit "free-market based vision" label attached to it - as the #1 priority. So I could nitpick on his description in the tweet too, but well, doesn't really matter now.
Better late than never, but frankly, I don't understand how anyone could miss that. So, too fucking late, man. Too fucking late.

I think I've said this three times in this thread alone, but every single one of those who demonize Putin *and* praise Yeltsin is such a severe case of intellectual dishonesty, shameless quasi-nepotism (Yeltsin was *their* corrupt leader, which Putin isn't) and moral bankruptcy that you should never pay any attention to them.
Sadly that's most of the Russia commentators in the West. But it's a very easy litmus test, and will never disappoint you. Its result is fool-proof.

I guess this is what they call a self-sanction.
Again, this is a country that lost one million people to a viral disease in two years.
It's basically Pelosi's voluntary admission that war can take sooooo much heat off a lot of bad stuff.

I don't know who wrote this, but if it was Arnold himself, he's a fucking genius. It says all the right things at the right timings, and whether you agree with him on those points or not doesn't even matter. It's a masterful speech.

The Chinese state media began to mention the civilian casualties in Ukraine *to domestic Chinese viewers*.
Very clear shift.

What these useless "foreign volunteers" don't seem to understand is that in war you *cannot always call in air strikes*.
I know, if you are American, that's hard to believe. Even if you *have* fought in Iraq or Afghanistan or wherever else, you've never experienced the *historically standard* warfare. Because the only warfare that you're familiar with is actually an anomaly in the history of warfare, the one in which your side always, always, ALWAYS control the air space everywhere.
Ukraine is not a fucking US of A. Its enemy, Russia, has overwhelming air power.
Have they every thought about why Zelensky says, "No-fly Zone!" every 10 seconds, why the rebel forces in Syria did likewise? Because it feels like the worst shit in the world not to have control over air space in war.
So there's no airstrikes to assist them, and the resources are limited. What did they expect? And what did they think the Ukrainian soldiers would expect from them?
"It's a trap!"
What a fucking idiot. These are the most pathetic clowns in the world.
There are good ones too. But needless to say, the idea of filming themselves like this, about any fucking thing, wouldn't even occur to those good mercs who know what they are doing. If they ever thought they were "trapped" in a war zone for whatever reason, they would quietly find a way out of it and live for another day. They wouldn't bitch about anything, because they perfectly understand that they have no goddamn right to do so.

"There are so many goddamn soldiers in this country, but only few of them are real ones. And that's actually a good thing for America. No one wants to become a real soldier. It's a horrible way of being."
That's what a (late) very high ranking army officer said to me years ago.

Such a stark contrast to him telling us to stay at home while smoking a cigar in his Jacuzzi. Ah, I forgot that one. That was pretty stupid. And it did turn out that this one was written by someone else. That being said, he has often mentioned his difficult relationship with his father, who also had a "difficult" relationship with the realities and consequences of WWII, and I always found his feelings about all those things genuine and real.
