Actually watching video of him talking about it he seems like he's just gleefully fucking around. It's so bizarre, I wonder if he's doing it for fun or if the Floyd fight was some ongoing plan by Rizin to get more coverage in English media? So I've been saying this for a while now, and while I don't have hard evidence to it, I feel like I have enough to go on to feel confident in it. All of the EXPERTS have already wagged their dicks around about what Floyd/Tenshin "really" was, but fuck that. Floyd held RIZIN up unless they met his specific terms. Those terms involved him "looking strong" against Tenshin and involved RIZIN giving his company a further platform in the future and Floyd working with them a bit to "help out." Since RIZIN couldn't air the Tenshin fight in the US due to Floyd's contracts, this is a gimme of sorts. His guy will fight Tenshin in a straightforward exhibition where everyone will look fine, nobody will "win," as per usual, and this can air on the US streams, not that it matters because it's not Floyd fighting. I'm sure that RIZIN wants Floyd to actually appear and hype the fight up, but that would cost more money. |

And remember that GLORY at one point made a run at Floyd as an investor, with the hopes of him being a public figurehead for the company.
I specifically remember someone in DA BIZ saying that Glory folks were whispering about getting a -- and I'm not making this up, as cringy as it is -- "black Dana."

The venn diagram of people who will pay for boxing, people who will pay for a pointless 5am Gervonta Davis fight where the hook is "does he flip the script and immediately demolish a child?", the Japanese TV audience, and people who like Japanese MMA just looks like a diagram of the planets in our solar system. The idea is just so stupid and unworkable that it's plausible Sakakibara would do it.

What's going on here? Right at the end is the extremely unsubtle buildup for the Takeru fight. Is this just Rizin scrambling because they slaughtered their golden goose and this is the last cut of meat they can get from it? The logistical blocks are so massive I just can't believe that this is in earnest and not just because they're now approaching this from a position of weakness.
