Crazy performance by Khabib. Gaethje didn't stand a chance. Not sure how the ref missed Gaethje tapping 9 times lol.
Looks like Khabib is retiring. Great sportsmanship by both Khabib and Gaethje.
Rest of the card was decent too.
It was fun to watch a UFC event live again. Definitely helps when you don't have to stay up until 6 am to catch it.

I'm actually surprised that Gaethje doesn't get more shit for his performance. He looked really nervous from the get-go and didn't seem to be confident at all in his grappling.

Not sure he should get shit for his performance.
I thought Gaethje looked pretty good in the first round and he landed some hard lowkicks that bothered Khabib.
It may even be what triggered Khabib to take it to the ground, which turned out to be the smart decision.
Once grappling I think Gaethje simply got overwhelmed by a more skillful opponent.
As far as I'm concerned the only person that deserves shit here is the ref for not seeing Gaethje clearly tapping repeatedly until he was out.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he should get shit, I'm just surprised that the folks aren't more critical. After a hype train gets derailed, that's usually what happens. I agree, the low kicks were heavy and it would have been interesting to see how Khabib would have reacted to a couple of more of them. Gaethje also landed some real solid punches. I just think his gameplan wasn't good. It looked to me that he really tried too hard to avoid any grappling instead of using his own wrestling to counter or at least nullify Khabib's offensive wrestling. Needless to say, getting mounted that easily and then being put into a triangle is not something that screams top calibre fighting skills.

It's a bit like when Badr completely overwhelmed Saki and put him away in R1 with just a few uppercuts, even though Saki was known to be a good boxer.
Didn't make Saki look great, but at the same time it didn't mean Saki sucked. He just got outclassed that night.
