My thoughts:
The Good + Overall a really good event. While I feel the middle part of the card was the strongest, every fight delivered something. + Badr retiring. If your heart and body aren't in it anymore, that's the right call to make. I'm sure he was thinking about this for a while, but I'm also sure the money made the decision to continue an easy one. + While both Badr and Alistair really showed their age, viewed through the lens of a fan from the K-1 golden era there was a bittersweetness to this fight. And while sure it was a bit slow and rusty, it was at least entertaining. + As much as it turned unto a complete circus for a minute when Rico entered the ring, it was fun to watch the show. + van Soest / Moussaddak was a good, technical fight and much closer than expected. + Maslobojev / Khbabez was an awesome brawl and a true war of attrition. It's impossible not to respect Khbabez' heart. Just look at his left leg after the first round. I'm sure Maslobojev didn't expect that much difficulty, even though he couldn't really bring himself to admit it. Maslobojev also has quite a chin on him as well. + Beztati / Koprivlenski was great. Both fighters had their rounds, but Beztati's start was very strong and Koprivlenski just couldn't quite catch up, although he did come close. Also, the mental hit of being concerned fighting with a split shin can't have been easy. + Petch was great as expected, but I'm just as happy Vidales didn't get smashed. He even had some moments here and there. + Rigters / Osaro ended up being a fun brawl. That said, it really showed that Rigters hadn't fought in over a year as he had a lot more trouble with Osaro than he should have had. + While Özcaglayan didn't fight a smart fight against Almeida, I can't believe he survived that second round and almost turned it around. Huge display of heart. Almeida should really work on his gastank, but it was nice to see him win. He was so happy he just wouldn't stop talking after the fight haha. + Abena / Micheletti was better than I expected with Abena earning a much needed win. I wonder what's next for Micheletti. + Awesome opening fight. Braun completely turned that fight around with superior conditioning. The two judges scoring it a draw were really stretching it. + Mostly good production by Videoland.
The Bad - As much as I enjoyed the fights, I would have liked a knockout or two. At least we had a bunch of great knockdowns. - Some obvious shenanigans helping Badr out during the fight as much as possible. - Overall some questionable reffing and judging. While I don't think it was to a point where it helped the wrong person win, it's concerning. - Videoland cut away from van Soest's victory speech and showed the studio team beginning to build up Badr vs. Overeem, but you could hear the loud boos from the crowd towards van Soest in the background. Looked very weird. - Perhaps I missed something, but I kind of expected Glory to advertize some of their upcoming events. Bit of a missed opportunity. - Not sure how two judges gave it to Khbabez. Also not sure how one judge gave the first three rounds to Khbabez. - I knew it was coming, but I was really annoyed by the Moroccan crowd booing everyone who happened to fight a Moroccan. While hometown favoritism is understandable (to some extent) and this is not really something you can blame the promotion for, I do blame Glory for pandering to Moroccan fanboys on Social Media. Glory has very much turned into "Badr & friends". - Non-Dutch viewers didn't see this, but I'm not a fan of Jay Jay Boske invading teams backstage before their fighters were up and then interviewing fighters after they just lost. I guess this is more of a critique of Videoland and its production team. - Not sure what the ref who called Almeida's highkick knockdown over Özcaglayan a slip was smoking.
Additional Notes * Interesting words by Schilt in his hall of fame acceptance speech. He really made it obvious that him and Glory didn't have the best relationship and then went on to praise the K-1 days and its legends LOL. * Andurand sitting ringside next to Cor Hemmers. Officially speaking, Hemmers may not have a big role in Glory anymore, but he obviously still has some pull. * Near the end of the first round Micheletti kicked a check by Abena that made me quiver. * Not sure if Braun can make weltwerweight, but he looks a bit undersized for middleweight. He'll be in trouble against fighters with a gastank.

They advertised another Rivals event: was that cut away from the feed you saw? About the post fight interview with van Soest: they had to try two times - at first the boos were way too loud, so they aborted. On the second attempt it was the same but they went ahead. It was quite obvious that most people attending were not pleased. And yes I know there were a lot of Moroccans and that the French fighter is of Moroccan descent but sure we can't blame the Moroccan fans for all the booing. Great write-up mate!

They advertised another Rivals event: was that cut away from the feed you saw? Didn't see the Rivals advertisement. At least it's something, though they should have given us something bigger. A reveal of some upcoming card or matchup, not stuff fans know already. When the Videoland stream cut away from the speech, Mark Schaaf addressed the booing and Rico said: "The venue is packed with Moroccan fans, I get it." I'm paraphrazing here, but that was the gist of it. The same loud booing happened when Alistair made his entrance (and he's a very popular fighter!). It was definitely mostly Moroccan fans being obnoxious. We've had too many similar situations to deny that. I've been in the middle of similar crowds and their bad reputation is not exaggerated. It's only when Badr fights that the crowd has to be calmed down and repeatedly told to sit the fuck down not to cause a riot. Wrzosek had to shut down his Instagram account for several weeks after he knocked out Badr, because he kept getting harrassed by Moroccan fans. They will go out of their way to mess with you, because they truly have nothing else going on in their life. Just for clarification; I have no problem with Moroccan fans, just the obnoxious ones. Unfortunately that's a large portion of them. I don't really consider them fight fans, they're mostly just fans of Badr that are looking for any excuse to wave their flag. And I have Moroccan friends who are Badr fans, but even they wouldn't buy a ticket for him anymore. On to the van Soest / Moussaddak decision. It was a close fight to the point where you could probably make a decent case for either fighter taking it. I have no issue with people believing Moussaddak won. Calling it a robbery is a bridge too far though. When opinions are mixed that only further drives home the point that it was a close fight. Bonjasky and Verhoeven thought van Soest probably did enough to take it and while I don't always agree with them, I sure value their opinion over a crowd of idiots that never picked up a glove. Dutch crowds are terrible - with or without the Badr army - and I've written about this many times in the past.

The reason why I posted about the booing mate, was because I wasn't sure if it was cut out from your feed. Agree on the Moroccan fans. And yeah I was quite surprised that Alistair didn't get a better welcome!!! I think it was a good show and a decent production. They fu**** up with the mic when Semmy was introduced, but that was about it. The lead card was SOLID!!! It was a night well spent, even though I hate working during the weekends, ha ha.

Yeah it cut out from the feed, but the Videoland studio was inside the venue and through their window you could see the ring. And clearly hear the booing lol.
That reminds me of something else; Rico and Manhoef were pretty decent together, doing pre- and postfight analysis. Also Bonjasky and Lely are definitely improving as a commentator duo.
It's so refreshing not to hear them struggling to do it in English.
Although, yeah, all of this is only interesting if you're watching the Dutch stream lol.

Are you based in Holland? I almost felt sorry for Glory with all the booing. That's one of the things I find SUPER cool about the Japanese fans / audiences: you can have an entire Tokyo Dome (80,000) totally quiet during a presentation and a fight, and then when a good attack happens you hear the appreciation and it becomes quiet again. I really liked the two guys on the feed I bought on Glory Fights - you know that Valente or something and the other US dude. I think they're are doing a decent job. Even though the one guy has never fought so he tends to say some crazy stuff every now and then. Like when Petch threw a double kick: "I've never seen that before.", LOL. It might have been another combo but it was definitely something you see a lot. But regular people will obviously not pick up on that. It's only us geeks, ha ha. It was cool to see Badr, Verhoeven, Alistair hugging in the ring, I think. Verhoeven and Alistair started out with an argument but at the end they all hugged. I like that. Melvin and Zimmerman were in the ring too. One big happy family, ha ha. I'm a softie, I know.
