FightsRico Verhoeven vs. Hesdy Gerges Laura Pileri vs. Denise Kielholtz Dan Karaty vs. Michael Boogerd www.hititshow.com/"Student Boxing" is also listed. Not sure if that means additional amateur fights or something. Either way, it's happening this Saturday. Aside from the fights there are some relatively big name stage performers listed (i.e. Jandino), but I'd be surprised if this actually does well. There are still plenty of tickets available and I don't see people buying the PPV (not sure for how much that even goes).

Doubt we ever hear any numbers, but will measure Rico's actual popularity whether they released numbers or not if the event falls entirely flat. Interesting how a thing like this doesn't end up on TV anymore even when it's in a traditional non-ppv market and when Veronica tv liked the big name shows Glory did locally.

I don't doubt Rico is extremely popular!
I'm just not sure this is a format the Dutch people are interested in. Spoke to a friend last night: he runs a gym in Holland and trains pro and am fighters in MMA and Kickboxing. He says there is hardly anybody talking about the event, and that those who do talk about it, are offended that the whole celebrity vibe kind of thing is a middle finger to the hard working fighters out there.
I kind of get the idea though (of the concept). I think the Japanese fans would love a show like this. I'm just not sure that the Dutch fans are into these kinds of events, since they are used to something different. But then again this is probably why Rico thinks that it's time for something new, and that combining main stream stuff with our obscure sport will help it in the right direction. I get that. I hope it does well, but I don't think it will.

Staredown VideoFor some reason Hoost is there. He'll also be doing commentary for the fights tomorrow. Probably in Dutch.

Rico Verhoeven defeats Hesdy Gerges by TKO R5
This was for the most part a showcase fight for Rico.
Gerges was on the backpedal 90% of the time, but he did have some moments where he randomly tagged Rico. Rico knocked Hesdy down with punches in R3 and rocked him with a highkick and punch flurry in R5. Hesdy was too tough for his own good and observed shots until the ref jumped in to stop it.
A worthy retirement fight if this is actually it for Hesdy.
Nice presentation for this fight and remarkably not just the commentary, but also the ring announcement were completely in Dutch.

Nice farewell moment for Hesdy.
Rico gave him a big speech with nothing but nice words and they showed some of his career highlights and half the kickboxing world, friends and family praising him.
I've only seen bits and pieces of the rest of the show - Denise Kielholtz won her fight as well BTW - and while I have my doubts about the future of this format, the main event was pretty fun.
