Just watched the Takeru/Superlek fight. Kind of what I was afraid would happen; Superlek just fought the smarter fight and didn't get into a brawl with Takeru. I've had Superlek winning every round, except the third one where he looked hurt for a second.
Even though Rodtang also lost to Superlek, Takeru vs. Rodtang and Takeru in ONE in general kind of lost its shine already with him losing his first fight against a late replacement, Superlek or not.

Also watched Opacic/Azizpour which was about what I expected from it and just "okay".
Only saw the knockout of Marat/Sitthichai. I guess that scenario was going to happen eventually.
Holzken/Akiyama pretty much sums up the overall state of Kickboxing in ONE.

That hurts just looking at it.
Throughout rounds 4 and 5 Takeru (finally) started checking some kicks with the lower part of his knee.
I'm guessing one or multiple of those blocks caused that dent.

Hope Takeru rests the rest of 2024 and makes his retirement fight in 2025 against Rodtang.
Time to call it a career, mad respect for him. He really represents the kakutougi spirit and almost single-handed brought K-1 back from the ashes.
Awesome career and perhaps the fighter who loves more kickboxing over everything.

Maybe they actually are mostly ditching 70 kg too A few months ago Glory's website was offline and they said a new fancy one was under construction. Then their website just reappeared and we assumed they just forgot to pay a bill. But now the fancy website showed up after all: I don't like it one bit. In general I dislike websites that have unnecessary bells & whistles like video playing in the background. It looks a bit better on mobile, but I don't like it there either. I also noticed the lack of weightclasses on the fighter page. Perhaps 70kg is moving to Rise alongside 65kg? Beztati said something about moving up in weight after the Kehl fight and maybe crossing over to boxing, so there won't be much of a division left anyway. Edit: Women moving to Rise as well? Glory has like 3 female fighters under contract. |
