I'm looking forward to this one. The main card is great, with two very interesting title fights. Just rewatched the first fight between Lawler and Hendricks and it was a very close and very exiciting, action packed fight. I wouldn't be suprised if Lawler can pull it off this time.
Pettis is definatly the favourite in his first title defense, but you can't count out Melendez.
Too bad that the prelims are pretty meh. Other than Sergio Pettis and Faber, there's not much interesting going on for me, and they both have lackluster opponents. Especially Faber's opponent, who's coming off a lose, while Faber coming off a submission win over Bruce Leeroy, is pretty strange. But yeah, the amazing main card makes up for it.
If all or at least the majority of the fights turn out to be good, this could become a pretty epic event.

the only thing for me is, was the fight close because Hendricks fought 25 minutes with a torn bicep? or was it close due to lawler? rematch should be good. wont be any question marks surrounding the outcome going in which is great.

and I hope Pettis next injury comes from Gil beating the crap out of him. Pettis cant stay healthy. never has never will. the longer he keeps the belt the less it will be defended.

I'm rooting for Gil in his battle against the human sick note, I've never seen him get beaten convincingly and he's a good all rounder.
As for the main event, the first was a proper doozy, I hope both guys have stocked up on headache tablets. It hurt watching that fight. I don't care who wins as I will never forgive Lawler for cracking Manhoef several times when he was clearly KO'd and Hendricks flip flopping on the drug testing for the GSP fight made him look slightly suspect, I thought.
"I'll be tested by whoever, I don't give a shit."
"wait a minute....VADA? Aren't they the guys who are quite thorough and actually catch cheats? Well, you know, I'm not being told what to do, I'll pass."
He wanted to be tested by WADA who, unfortunately for Johnny, don't actually conduct testing they set the parameters and guidelines for other agencies to do the actual tests. DOH!

I don't care who wins as I will never forgive Lawler for cracking Manhoef several times when he was clearly KO'd I rewatched the KO, and I really don't see anything horrible there. Definatly not on the level of Kharitonov vs. Mizuno or Rampage vs. Wand III for example.

Definatly not on the level of Kharitonov vs. Mizuno or Rampage vs. Wand III for example. I don't like the last shot. I thought Lawler appears to use unnecessary force and malice with it. On the replays, there's one angle where you can see Manhoef is not in a good way at all from that particular illegal punch which happens to be absolutely clean on the button. Needless. You don't see it? Oh, well. Rampage lost a fan in myself (I doubt that he's concerned, in all honesty) because of the late shots that followed the Wand KO that you mentioned above, and Kharitonov's is nasty because of the sheer size difference between the two.

Ok, admittedly, I haven't watched the replay, and in the original camera angle you barely could see the last punch. Now that I've seen the last punch I can definatly see where you are coming from, but I still wouldn't say it was something really horrible or even unusual for MMA. Keep in mind that Lawler got his ass kicked thorughout the fight up until that point, and that it all happened in barely 2 seconds. I can understand that he wanted to make sure that he's out. I thought Kharitonov vs. Mizuno was horrible for 2 reasons. First one, Kharitonov really pounded on an unconscious Mizuno like several times and hit him really hard. Way worse than Lawler vs. Manhoef, imo. Second, they showed Mizuno's mom (I believe), who was in attendence, before and, most importantly, right after the fight/KO, and she was like devestated and had a very weird look in hey eyes, kind off like "you fucker didn't just did that to my boy, didn't you?". I thought that fight was pretty gruesome.

Kharitonov's was pretty sudden in it's finish, the knee sending Mizuno down and appears to knock him out, Sergei moving in pretty sharpish. The first shot whilst Mizuno is down and out is the "grimacer" if you like, the nasty one. The second unnecessary one is high on the head. Not nice, agreed. And as I noted in my previous post, matched a genuine Heavyweight against a guy who's proper weight is 205, although he had fought at Heavy before. Looking back over my notes, Sergei apologized for it at the post fight press conference as well, so he knew he'd done wrong.
On the subject of family members going to watch their relative compete, they do so at their own risks. The fault lies at the door of the broadcaster, who didn't need to cut to Mizuno's mother at that time. DREAM loved yanking in family members to the arena or featuring them in pre fight VTR's for some reason. Hiroshi Izumi and Sakuraba had their father's featured in the promotion of their respective bouts around 2009/2010.
Manhoef was "gone" after Lawler's first shot. The ref, you could argue, really should have stepped in then and there. The next punch lands before Manhoef's back touches the canvas but after a slo-mo fall from Melvin, lands clean on the chin whilst he's on his side. At this point the fight, in my opinion should be over with the official betwixt the fighters, waving it off. He isn't. He's douche. Then that horrible final one comes in. And it's a sickening punch to a man who is already unconscious. In terms of damage, danger and incompetence this one is far worse IMHO.

Again, I think it happened so quickly and suddenly, that you can't even blame the ref - my opinion. In Lawler's defense, he pretty much felt with Manhoef, so it wasn't like he had a clear look on how hard he was falling. He just swarmed right away and got one more punch in. Well, I guess we'd have to agree to disagree on this one.
Btw. what did you thought about Hendo vs. Bisping back then?^^

I can see why Henderson did it as Bisping is a bit of a prick and hostilities had been amped up due to the TUF season they had captained, but of course it doesn't excuse the fact that it was bloody disgusting. So bad that it's rarely seen on UFC produced clips and highlights any more, especially since they joined up with the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo center earlier in the year.
If I recall correctly, Bisping's corner was a shambles that night with Mark Kinney, an esteemed amateur boxing coach in Liverpool I believe, having an absolute meltdown at Bisping between rounds. No good for Michael at all.
Also, Hendo would also become infamous as one of the first (if not, THE first) consistent high profile TRT user in the sport. He had already been using it for 2 years by the time this fight came around, but one point during his 185 run he came off it before quickly reverting back to it again. Did he do this to Bisping whilst under the "benefit" of TRT?

I'm having mixed feelings about the Hendricks vs Lawler decision. While I thought that Hendricks had done enough to take it, it seemed at times he was just milking the control position and I feel that shouldn't be rewarded. Additionally Lawler ended very strong and Hendricks looked like he was completely finished and just happy to survive. The judge who scored it 49-46 for Lawler is clearly an idiot though.
