Kyotaro Fujimoto sets off for training camp with Freddie Roach ahead of Ishida rematch
Japanese Heavyweight champion Kyotaro Fujimoto (11-1, 6) knows that his next bout is a must win contest. He knows he must defeat rival Nobuhiro Ishida (27-10-2, 11) if he's to be taken seriously as a professional boxer and that anything but a clear win will be seen in a negative light. A win by it's self isn't enough he needs a dominant and clear win, he need to defend his belt in style.
As part of his preparation for his upcoming bout with Ishida, on April 30th, Fujimoto has set off for the US where he will spend 3 weeks training at Freddie Roach's world famous Wildcard Gym, a gym that has helped make Manny Pacquiao into a global boxing sensation.
The training at the Wildcard will see Fujimoto spending time training alongside WBA Cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev, with two men expected to spar. For Lebedev it's a chance to spend time in the ring with another big, strong fighter whilst for Fujimoto it's a huge chance to spend time in the ring with a world class fighter capable of teaching him numerous little tricks that he use against Ishida.
The Ishida bout will be the second meeting between the two men with Fujimoto having won their first meeting last year, incidentally a full year before their rematch. It was a win for Fujimoto, but a hard one, especially considering it was Ishida's first bout at the weight. Since then Ishida has settled into the division and is expected to be much better this time around.
It's thought that the winner of the upcoming bout will not only be the Japanese champion but will also move towards a clash with the unbeaten Joseph Parker for the OPBF title and possibly even move towards a top 15 world ranking, an amazing achievement for a Japanese Heavyweight.
