Terrible news for Spong, Saki's speed advantage wasn't as obvious against these guys as it was against the HW's. in fact Corbetts combinations looked faster. Corbett looked good and was unfortunate to be stopped due to a torn ear. No disrespect to Saki but Lady Luck was certainly on his side in this tournament. Spong put in a solid display against Cavalari and Cavalari proved that he should be in the top 3 or 4 LHW's in the world. Cavalari v Ilunga or Corbett would be a good scrap. Does this now mean that when Spong is all healed up that he will have to win another 4 man eliminator for a chance to face the champ? Im not sure how Glory work these things.

The injuries - especially Spongs - pretty much ruined this event, which is a real shame. On paper it could have been one of the best events since the 2010 World Grand Prix. It weren't just the injuries though. Spong didn't look his usual self in the fight against Cavalari. Not to take anything away from Cavalari's performance, but Spong was obviously gassed after round 1. His preparation really did suffer due to his recent losses. It was comforting to see Saki's sportsmanship. He might be somewhat of a prick in real life, but his concern for Spong comes off as sincere and in that regard he redeemed himself for his behaviour during and after the Verhoeven fight. I just hope Spong is able to recover quickly and bounce back from this. For something that is considered a freak injury it has happened relatively often in big league events now.
Other comments:
They showed some highlight footage of the Superfight Series and it's a travesty these fights are handled the way they currently are in terms of accessibility.
Hesdy looked good against Diniz who just looked fat.
It's nice to see Bouzidi picking up a win while at the same time it's nice to see Blake going three rounds with a solid name.
Also good to see Verlinden pick up a win.
Corbett might still have been in the fight with Saki, but to me it felt like a matter of time until Saki would connect with something huge.
Ilunga finishing off Stoica the way he did proved that other than Adegbuyi, SuperKombat's best are no match for the international elite.

Yep, I agree with K1 Power on all but the comment about Spong not looking his normal self. I honestly think that Spong doesn't like fighting tournament style formats, and I think that knowing that he was aiming for two fights that night affected his gameplan in the first fight. Also Cavalari is a very dangerous opponent with a very good chin and a busy style so I think Spong placed more emphasis on defence than normal. Regarding his return, I would rather he took the rest of the year away from kickboxing and instead got his leg in good enough shape to have a Western style boxing fight at the end of the year. Then all being well return to kickboxing early next year.

You might be right about Spong's intention of pacing himself. However he was breathing heavy after just one round of fighting, which is uncharacteristic for Spong and makes me believe he was less active due to fatigue and not so much in a calculated "Tournament Gameplan" way. Regardless of the Cavalari fight though, Spong looked strong against Saki until the injury. Also, despite everything seeing this makes me happy

Does anyone know the viewing figures for this event yet?

Spike TV ratings are in today and they are awful.
354,000 average.
GLORY 11 drew 381,000, so this is the lowest yet.

I really can't understand why the viewing figures for such a stellar event are so low.

Looking at the event on paper the event should have drawn a lot more viewers.
Could it really be because of the fact that it was pretty much a non-American card?

That is a very good point, but I would've hoped that the public could have appreciated a world class card like this one.

I would too, but then the average Joe US viewers may be as small minded as Spike expects them to be.
Needless to say, that would be a big shame. There's still the (slim) chance that it didn't draw a lot of attention, because it wasn't a live broadcast.
