Lomachenko was one of the greatest amateur boxers of all time, winning 2 Olympic Gold medals back-to-back in 2008 and 2012 (and winning the Val Barker Trophy at the former games), back-to-back World Championships in 2009 and 2011 plus a European Championship Gold in 2007 in a reputed 397 fight amateur career in which he won 396 of those contests.
As a pro he's had just seven fights (losing his second in highly questionable circumstances to Orlando Salido, who didn't even try to make the contracted weight limit and has shown no inclination to rematch Loma despite being offered good money to do so) but has already nabbed WBO titles at Featherweight and Super Featherweight, where he reigns currently. Oh, and he's done all of that before the age of 30. The only sub-par thing about him is his nickname: "Hi-Tech". He should probably think about changing that, really.
For a man who could barely string together a sentence in English less than a year ago, his command of the language is very good.
He fights Jamaica's undefeated Nicholas "The Axeman" Walters in an anticipated bout on November 26th at MSG.
Look out in the background at about the 1 minute mark for a cameo from a man most of us will recognize....
