GLORY Appoints New CEO, Next Show in October

Things have been quiet on the GLORY front, which to many has been a bad sign, but we've been hearing reports from within the company about "big things" happening, including some shifts. The first of those shifts was announced today when GLORY unveiled that Jon J. Franklin has been appointed as the new CEO for the organization, replacing Andrew Whitaker. Whitaker will remain with the organization in an advisory role, working mostly with the television aspect of the brand.

Jon J. Franklin, based out of Denver, has been working with GLORY for a while now with his company, The Sports Entertainment Company. Franklin has also served in senior roles for IMG-Media, was President of Golden Gloves Boxing and worked with AP-X. His extensive history within the realm of boxing can only help GLORY further at this point.

Some might be concerned over the change at this point, especially after a period of relative silence, but this is actually a good thing. This shows that GLORY is thinking to the future and that they are looking to revise their direction for the future. As someone who worked previously within the world of corporate PR and IR, CEO changes are a very common occurrence in many organizations, with the idea being to keep fresh ideas and direction for organizations.

Also, according to an interview given to MMAMania, Franklin stated that they would be returning in October, which aligns with a statement we received from within GLORY about a month ago.

GLORY's board of directors is hilariously large, but then again, everything they do is like that.

Having been to a show, holy fuck do they have a lot of staff at even smaller shows. If they want to cut back spending on shows they can pare down their production crew to like 8 people and that alone will save them serious money.

I get having guys who invested on their board, but there are so many guys collecting paychecks that it's kind of goofy.

So I worked in PR for four years and dealt with a lot of bigger companies and yeah, you know, if things aren't perfect in most companies the CEO will switch over because they want to try new things. The business world is unforgiving in this regard, so this isn't a shock. I've said that this is a good thing because it shows that GLORY is still trying different things.

I do stand by that.

GLORY's New CEO Promises October Return, More International Events

GLORY's unannounced and relatively quiet break that begun after GLORY's Last Man Standing PPV had a lot of people up in arms. Many believed that the company was in dire straits and that there might not be another show. It was clear that there was originally a GLORY 18 scheduled and that it dissipated before it could even be publicly announced. Now GLORY has named a new CEO and he's published an open letter on GLORY's website to give a sort of state of the union address to fans.

You can read it here, but here are the bullet points to take away from it.

- GLORY's next event will be in October.
- There is no announced location for it yet, but the canceled event was scheduled in the Chicago area.
- He hints at wanting to take GLORY "back on the road" away from LA and NYC.
- Also hints at more international events.
- Spike TV relationship will continue moving forward.
- GLORY and Spike TV will be working together for more GLORY-based programming to air on Spike.
- A show titled "Top Knockouts of Glory Countdown" is set to debut, possibly before the late October event.

There are a lot of positives in there, including the expanded programming on Spike TV. If there was one thing really hampering GLORY events on Spike TV it would probably be the distinct lack of extra programming to help raise brand awareness. GLORY is a newer brand to audiences and the sport of kickboxing is just as new to them as well, airing additional programming on Spike TV can only help out.
