Bonjasky: In K1 80 to 90 percent are on PEDs Remy Bonjasky never used doping himself, but he's sure there's plenty of use in K1. "80 to 90 percent are on PEDs in our sport. I'm almost certain of it" he says in the Dutch BNN-programme Spuiten en Slikken. Bonjasky is an exception to the sport, he believes. "I don't use it and never did. I always said if I can't do it naturally I should quit. I always want to win and if I can't do that with regular nutrition it stops."
He cannot mention any names on the show, but says he recognizes it in certain fighters. "You just see it in the footage. You see someone now and again less than half a year later and I'm thinking like 'You did a cycle'. There's other crap entering your body as well. Those guys end up with enlarged jaws and their whole body just got a lot larger."
So when it's so easy to see, why isn't anything done about it? "The sport is so young that it just hasn't reached that level of professionalism yet. It's too bad, but that's just the way it is. To a certain degree it's just being accepted", he closes.Translation by meSource: www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1021/Meer-sport/article/detail/3743308/2014/09/08/Bonjasky-In-de-K1-gebruikt-80-a-90-procent-doping.dhtml

While I agree with what he says and he's probably right, I wonder what he hopes to accomplish with outings like these.
The article is met with a fair amount of criticism on Bonjasky by the Dutch fight community as many see him as a disingenuous person.
I think it's very interesting when looking at the episode of Lord Gaul's documentary that touches the subject.

I always thought it was painfully obvious that PED use was rampant in K-1, never really bothered me tbh tho. Enson Inoue coming out recently and actually posting his PRIDE contract that stated steroids will not be tested for kind of proves Japan actually pushed the fighters to use.
Look at Bob Sapp when he came on the scene or Overeem's transformation, look at the Overeem that fought Ben Edwards, then look at the Overeem that fought Ben Rothwell, night and day.

on the one hand he's right, on the other hand steroids gave us that last Aerts/Schilt fight

I don't know for sure who does and does not use PED's but physical appearance wise I always took it for granted that the likes of Hug, LeBanner, Greco, Spong (as a H/W), Schilt, Aerts (on and off), Hoost (on and off) and obviously Sapp amongst others were all on PED's. But as I knew that the Japanese K1 organisation wasn't bothered if they did I didn't think of it as cheating.
And to be honest I also thought Remy had taken them, so what do I know : )

Pretty much agree with the above. I think the 80-90% percentage is a closer to the truth than many people would like to believe.
With a lot of fighters you can simply detect it by looking at them: regular Muay Thai/Kickboxing/Karate workouts actually break down and simply do not allow for bulky muscle to develop and/or be sustained, so any (dedicated) fighter looking like a Marvel Superhero most likely took something that goes a step further than a protein shake after hitting the weight room.
And that's just the fighters that LOOK like they took something, which already covers a large percentage. There's also guys like Samedov - who was actually caught - who does not look like he's on anything, but is taking something that most likely helps him with something like quick(er) recovery.
