As far as commentary goes: English (and/or any localization) would be cool for everybody who wants/needs it. My personal favorite is still the Japanese commentary though. It's part of the experience of enjoying K-1 and J-events in general. It's somewhat comparable to 'Subbed vs. Dubbed': the original is always better as far as I'm concerned. Original audio for anything other than sports. Sports with English commentary other than ice hockey and well actually kickboxing, weirdly enough there's a bunch of good Finnish commentators for kickboxing. I refuse to watch any dubs of movies/tv anywhere everrrr. Sucks so bad when you've downloaded some non-English movie you want to watch, start it up and then there's only dubbed audio Or some Russian/Turkish/German dub of an English language movie you can't find any other version of

I might be in the minority. I understand Japanese, but I preferred the HDNet commentary for K-1 when those were available. Sometimes Japanese commentary is fantastic and almost poetic. The newer K-1/Krush shows are pretty decent cause they have Masato or Sato or Yuya Yamamoto on hand for the technical commentary. But the old school ones were often Tanikawa blathering on about one triviality or another.

My Japanese (non)skills don't cut it for fights Just movie/anime basics from 10-20 years ago. Also don't really have much of a connection to Japanese commentary at all. All my earlier K-1 was in English and Finnish. Eurosport ftw.

I dunno, listening to the Kunlun and Topking English commentary guys I can appreciate that they are knowledgeable and speak my mother tongue but it seems kinda bland. The Japanese commentators get so hyped you can feel it across the language barrier. A best case scenario would be if they got Shiavello.

Schiavello is a ONE guy now. I'm happy getting to hear him commentate a Petrosyan fight again.

Koji tried the helmet gag with Takeru but got one arm shoved across the stage. Takeru remains undefeated at pre-fight conference squabbles.

Think K-1 keeping that money and with the title same situation as was with RvR-Embree but I'm not entirely sure with the translations.

I will never understand the gloves thing, depending on the style of the fighter it can be an advantage or disadvantage. It's baffling.

Apparently K-1 also doesn't want Wei Rui to weigh over 67kg tomorrow. Chinese having pretty "fucking typical Japanese" reactions to these penalties. As long as he doesn't get injured or anything there's probably not a lot to lose for Wei Rui here. He'll either overcome the sneaky Japanese and be a hero or if he loses he'll have been fucked over by the Japanese and then it just is what it is and the loss wouldn't really count.

Pity but hopefully the fight is good enough to make us forget this ugliness Saitama looks cool! I too wasn't a big fan of the community arena but this is a classic layout Koji had fun

Who knows though: maybe K-1 Global and/or FEG consequences are keeping K-1 from going outside of Japan. There is, indeed, a part of that involved. K-1 Global still owns the broadcast rights to everything beyond Japan. Do you want K-1 Global handling this, like really? The fact that we get everything posted on YouTube is a miracle. Also, if you can't watch a show with foreign commentary you are probably living in the modern combat sports bubble. I got my K-1 shows special ordered through a shop downtown that sold anime in the 90's after my karate instructor let me borrow a few tapes and told me where he got them. Then came IRC and newsgroup-based tape trading, etc., etc., etc. The fact that we can even find ways to watch this live is astonishing.

But the old school ones were often Tanikawa blathering on about one triviality or another. I've got pretty remedial Japanese at this point. The HDNet commentary was surprisingly good, but a lot of that was, in part, the passion that went into it, the sheer quality of the shows and everything else. Their commentary crew was on-site and took part in the whole show, from press conferences to weigh-ins to the live broadcast, while a lot of companies attempt to do english commentary with in-studio or just day-of commentary with no research or feel. Let's also not forget that there was this really, truly obnoxious thing in Japanese fighting sports (which still happens to this day, but not as much) of "bring in a pretty girl to gasp, shout and cry while we laser-focus on her reactions" thing. That wasn't always adding to the shows. FWIW Japanese wrestling commentary has always been incredible and it's a shame that Japanese kickboxing and MMA didn't stick to that formula always.
