Many liberals seem absolutely terrified that this will somehow make Americans sympathize(?) with Trump or/and humanize(?) him.
Well. Call me a cynic, but I can only see American families - even many Republican ones - at dinner going, "Wow, what a fucking dumbass."
Americans are suckers for Human Drama, but for this kind of shit? Not really.
I think bleeding-heart liberals who always care so much about civility are just projecting. I really think "What a fucking dumbass" is the standard reaction of normal Americans.

Oh, so he does have "cold-like" symptoms now. Could get worse.
And it does seem that it has the potential to turn out to be a mini-super-spreading event. LOTS of people around and even outside the White House need to be tested ASAP.
What a fucking dumbass, seriously.

Obviously I won't wish him either a speedy recovery or death, but I'll be pissed if he has it easier than I did.

Ah. I wasn't really paying much attention to the details of this ordeal, but it seems that the White House tried to cover up Hicks's testing positive, until the Bloomberg reporters broke it.
Well that is pretty bad. That's just worse than Brazil.
And the White House seems to have been in ridiculous bubbles as well. I said there was a "fortress" there but now stand corrected. It seems that it wasn't a fortress anymore, and Trump indeed lived in the "false sense of security".
Mark Meadows said to the reporters yesterday that he wasn't wearing a mask because he was tested.
Jesus fucking Christ. What the fuck does that even mean?
Just compare this garbage to how the NBA handled it.

If you are American, yes, this is time to LOL. You should spare a moment and refrain from mocking the president for getting the viral disease that he constantly downplayed while pissing on the public health consensus and guidance before covering up a senior staff member testing positive which might be part of an outbreak, says not me.
That man deserves to get a lot more shit than your LOL.

There are still so many people who seem to think "But masks only protect others and not you" is a gotcha, particularly in the US and UK.
I kept warning about the folly of emphasizing "It's overwhelmingly for protecting others!" without much evidence or justification for that.
Just look at the simulation done by Supercomputer Fugaku. It's a beautiful image of a simple surgical mask blocking aerosols floating in the air from entering your nose and mouth.
You do not need to appeal to altruism. You wear a mask because you don't want to get infected first and foremost, and you protect others too that way, even more efficiently, while you are at it. That should've been the argument.
They emphasized "Protecting others!" so much for so long that I don't think we can eliminate the "It won't protect you, though, LOL" talking point in the society anymore. It's a pity, really.

Remember several different shades of "mild" that I talked about?
More than half of "mild" isn't really mild when it comes to Covid-19. If they keep saying "mild" for a few more days, that would probably mean thing aren't so swell.

What a fucking circus coming to town. What a bunch of stupid degenerates those Trumpian Republicans are, laughing and talking to each other in proximity, even coughing and sniffing, into their own fucking hands, shaking hands, and testing positive left and right like motherfuckers.
I gotta admit: fomite transmissions are a genuine threat with people like that around you. You wouldn't dare to touch anything they did.
Wash your hands, indeed.
The Rose Garden event to celebrate Amy Coney Barrett's nomination is officially a super-spreading event. Not a large-scale one (yet), but more than 10 positive cases so far. I would qualify it. Congrats, America, it's rare to have one caused by top government officials and representatives attending an official party event.
They went along with Donald's little inner struggle with fear, like a bunch of roaches that have no independent thought, and this is the result. I wouldn't be surprised if Donald had felt spooked and mortified seeing all those people hugging and laughing, even indoors - a classic case of the Frankenstein syndrome.
Donald said he wasn't afraid, because he was. There are no germaphobes in this world who are not afraid of Covid-19. None. He clutched at every little piece of information that somewhat downplayed the severity of Covid-19 because he was afraid. He was never straightforward about Covid-19 denialism unlike Bolsonaro, because he was genuinely afraid unlike the Brazilian president. That's why he was always "I don't know, I'm just asking" about it. But he had to act like he was not afraid, and that must have stressed him out.
It's very Trump-like, dragging other people along for his own little inner insecurity thing, and unfortunately in this case, "other people" is the entire US population.

This is fucking disgusting. Even more so than when she called me (not personally, but basically) a Kremlin tool.
In what fucking way is Donald "your friend"?
Go fuck yourself, you creep. You say that because you actually feel you have no fucking skin in the game, you hack.

Having observed the policies of many countries in the world and how they have been implemented in practice, I've ditched the secret crackpot theory of soft immunity among (East) Asians. I think it's just that their analyses, policies and compliance have been vastly superior so far. I realized you can explain it simply like that.
Sub-saharan Africa remains a bit of a mystery, though.

I bet none of those gotcha opining clowns saying shit like "You upper-class liberals who live in Manhattan and San Francisco and Cambridge and so on do not understand the working-class Americans who like the way Trump debates and don't care about decorum and manners! They don't understand Real America!" have ever met the rich assholes who do live in Manhattan and San Francisco, and who would debate exactly like Trump and don't give a shit about decorum or manners.
The average Wall Street trader swears twice as much as the average construction worker in Michigan.
Those things aren't "working-class," dummies. You don't know that because you are losers who have never been and in most likelihood will never be anywhere near where the actual power is.
Maybe you should try a part-time job for a few days as a caddy at the golf course that those rich assholes go to frequently. They would alpha-male you like there's no tomorrow and make you weep.

Remdesivir is an effective and relatively safe option for Covid-19 treatment, but it does come with potential side effects, and a doctor would only use it if the patient is on the wrong side of "mild symptoms."
I guess I don't have to feel pissed now.

I saw a computer simulation of a two-person debate - basically identical to the setting of the presidential debate in Cleveland - done by some Japanese grad school students, and both persons' aerosols were filling the space up like they were chain-smoking cigars.
The viral load shouldn't be much, and I don't know how the ventilation was (the simulation didn't take that into account, and instead used the "ambient" flow of the air) but it's possible that Biden and Chris Wallace were also infected. And we can't be sure for several days.
Again, what a fucking dumbass senior citizen.
