All the talk about the "middle ground" in US politics today is complete nonsense. Like this utterly stupid shit:
No, I'm not even talking about the fact that Joe Biden is the centrist-est middle-ground-est Democrat that you could think of. It's not even that.
I'm talking about the total absence of the fundamental premise, GROUND, that both sides share. You can't have a "middle ground" when there's no fucking ground to begin with. Trumpism/Republicanism and modern US liberalism don't stand on the same ground anymore.
It's just a permanent battle instead. One has to beat and suppress the other, and hopefully keep them down. Republicans totally understand this; many Democrats still don't. Unfortunately Joe Biden probably doesn't, primarily because he's personally friends with too many Republicans. He has this delusion that how his political opponents are in person has anything to with the train that they are riding on. They can be friends, but there's no political bridge between them.
In a battle between two sides who ideologically don't share anything, there's no fucking "middle ground."

Er, what? The doctors gave Trump dexamethasone?
Why would anyone do that if he doesn't have severe lung damage? It's basically roids. You shouldn't give it to anyone whose tissues haven't been damaged much. But he might be able to go back to the White House tomorrow?
Whatever, man. It's all fucking noise.

I totally didn't know Stan Chera died of Covid-19 back in April.
Man, Trump must have been absolutely torn apart inside between his fucking-scared-self and delusionally-confident-self. And he opted to act that way.
The fact that Chera gave him a warning with his own death back in April makes everything worse. What a mindless little puppy that man is.

Seriously, they gave Trump that experimental antibody drug, remdesivir, dexamethasone, plus some other stuff, right? His entire body system is drugged up and juiced up like hell. How the fuck can someone like that "go back to work" tomorrow?
In all likelihood they'll have to continue to dope him up to keep him away from the death line.
Those doctors aren't really talking to you or me; They are talking to Donald Trump, cheering him up and telling him to stay the course.

At the end of the day, the sense of urgency to get rid of Trump and his worshippers that I developed comes mostly from the realization that those people are seriously rejecting established science and going totally woo woo inside their echo chamber. It's markedly different from the fear that I would have for fascism.
I'm scared of *nurses and doctors* who seriously argue that, say, a facial mask physically makes your oxygen level drop. As medical professionals they must have studied basic physics back in school, but are totally *sincere* with that thoroughly nonsensical argument.
And they all worship Donald Trump, having no idea who he is.
I have no stomach for intellectual freeloaders the same way I can't tolerate crap like "Christian Science." The science and technology and environment that it creates is already there for everyone, and we can't take its benefits away from those morons. But at least they must not be allowed to have any chunk of the political power that affect the society at large. They must be taken down and pinned down there. They are far too dangerous.
We can't eliminate them. They won't ever tap out. But they must be down, and stay there. So, if you are one of those MAGA fools and accuse me of being fascistic, my answer is YES, you're kind of right.
I'll take you down, and pin you down there for three rounds. You won't ever be able to get out.

The latest new cases # in the UK gave me a mild heart attack, since I didn't know it was due to some "technical difficulty" that caused some backlog issue.
But even taking that into consideration, the figure is very high. Way too high.
I tend not to care a lot about new cases for the reasons that I've talked about many times, but I do question the strategy of extremely high volumes of testing without a good answer to "So, now what?"
Do you have a good quarantine scheme? Isolation? Quick hospitalization?
Do you have any plan other than just telling them to lock themselves up at home?
No?
Then you have no good answer to "So, now what?"
If you have so many cases, contact tracing is practically impossible. Just try it. Trust me, it's not going to happen.
I know this is a bit of a chicken or egg thing, but you must keep the infection rate down in the first place; You need a good public health policy first. "Testing and Tracing" is in a way the luxury for the communities that manage to keep it down, below a certain level at least, through good public health policies on "social distancing", masks, ventilation, lifestyle adaptation, and the promotion of the plain common sense updated for this new environment.
You don't turn on and off these things. You must make all the effort in the world to make them sort of ambient, omnipresent, because we won't get back to the pre-Covid world in any foreseeable future. And they are much, much more important than the (imaginary) capability to conduct 500k tests a day.
Besides, mass testing in such high volumes pick up LOTS of people with a negligible amount of viruses. Running the cycle 40 times in the PCR test is akin to finding one hair in a room. Of course they *could* spread it, but the presence of hundreds or thousands of these cases paralyzes everything. Forget about contact tracing, forget about cluster analyses. Once you have such numbers on your sheet of paper, the only option left is lockdown especially if you don't know for how many cycles they ran the test for each positive case, meaning you can't tell which ones are truly dangerous, potentially infectious cases and which ones aren't.
The UK strategy seems to me like a prime example of largely misguided policies based on confused priorities. Testing is of course important to get a picture of the situation, but it shouldn't take administrative priority over preventive measures.

What the fuck was that Trump drive-out-to-say-hello (= feebly wave a hand from inside a shielded car) drive-by crap?
I just couldn't believe my eyes. Could you? If you could, I think this pandemic fried your brain, and you don't know what is what anymore. Your value system is broken.
America has just forfeited the right to mock countries like North Korea.

Bad sign. The loss of taste and smell means the viruses are fucking with your nervous system.
I'm a very rare case that the loss of taste and smell was very brief. Hell, it might come back some time later, you never know. I'll enjoy my sense of taste that can taste this delicious Kobe Beef until then.
