The survival rates with Covid-19 have dramatically increased mostly because of the clear improvement in the treatment.

But you can get that benefit only when you are at a hospital.

If the hospitals are overrun, your survival rate will quickly drop down below the spring level.

Half-assed measures can't save the hospitals.

Brussels decided to close gyms/sports clubs yesterday.

And the measures - or to be more precise the attitude in the UK continues to make little sense to me.

I don't know how many times I've said that the UK is THE leading country in all of epidemiology, virology and immunology. Yet with the exception of the vaccine development, it's literally one of the worst countries in terms of up-to-dateness on the science.

What the hell is Oxbridge there for?

I won't even go into specifics. It's just bizarre.

Spain has been such a godawful mess since Day One in this pandemic, and that clearly has a LOT to do with the disunity among the regions.

Belgium has a similar problem, although not as bad as in Spain.

It's been two full months since this:

Europe had the misfortune of getting engulfed in the pandemic earlier than most others back in March, but this time, in this so-called "second wave", other countries in other continents, such as the US South/West and Japan, both of which happen to be my homes, are ahead of them as canaries in the coal mine. They can be prepared better...

And it's been seven weeks since this and this:

So many Western Europeans seem totally in denial that it's kind of amazing.

Maybe I should stop talking about "less lethal" and "mutations" and stuff like that because if they are in denial like that in the first place, that kind of talks simply give them a very wrong idea about the reality of Covid-19.

The viruses are still out there, and can totally kill your parents. That hasn't changed. I didn't know that I had to say such an obvious, but hell, they will probably take even this much, this little, as fear-mongering.

Maybe they are just sick and tired of the pandemic, and can't accept any negative news at all. If that's the case, well, what can I say. Then why don't they just do whatever they want to do and deal with the consequences. I'd TOTALLY respect that choice if that's the social consensus. It's up to each country to decide how much they can tolerate.

But folks, don't ever try to bullshit with me just because you feel pissed and crappy.

FYI, the "first wave" killed 1,000 people in Japan, and more than 300 people have died thus far in the "second wave" despite most of the confirmed cases being "young" and "mild/asymptomatic". No matter what the rates are, people WILL die in France, and it won't be just a few if not "thousands".

Yes, I'm the asshole who quotes himself, but stop lying.

It seems that EVERYONE in my Dallas neighborhood either has already voted or will vote soon.

It's a very blue and even pink neighborhood, but I'd guess only half of them voted in 2016, tops.

No, I still don't believe Texas will flip, but it's extremely hard and in fact nearly impossible to get this state right for a number of reasons. It's just very different from most other states in MANY things.

We'll see what will come out of the box.
