So, now, due to the Supreme Court decision, Wisconsin and Minnesota will have to throw out the ballots that are postmarked correctly but arrived after the election day.
That decision has no sound legal basis whatsoever. So, yup, they are simply trying to steal the election for Trump.
The best part of that is that the instructions on the Minnesota ballot clearly say that it will be accepted and counted if it's postmarked correctly and arrived within seven days of the election, lol.
Their biggest weapon is the right-wing judges, and they are enormously, enormously powerful thanks to the shit US political system.

I'm for real worried about a majority of my friends in the US who seem to be suffering from real insomnia because of the election.
I'm glad that I'm neither a liberal nor a right-winger, but this election completely dwarfs Obama vs. McCain in 2008 by several magnitudes in terms of people's emotional investment in it.
It's good for me to be away from the US now. It doesn't feel quite real - almost feels like I'm just staring at a SimCity simulation actually.
I've found no reason to change my prior, but my words can never do anything remotely close to calming their anxiety as they keep asking, "You say that, but what if the polls are completely, spectacularly wrong!?" I have no answer to such a question, except to say that in such case you're fucked, so that would stress them out even further.
It's extremely, extremely bad to be stressed out like that in the middle of the pandemic, immunity-wise, but it'll be over soon... hopefully.

I'm of course deeply saddened by the turn that Labour seems to be taking in the UK. Antisemitism, eh?
One of the dirtiest tricks in the book.
I don't think I should say much on that. I've already said, in this very thread, everything that needs to be said about that topic.
It's just deeply offensive. The ruling class always used antisemitism as a tool to incite the population to reject the left, which was always associated with "The Jews."
And now they have inverted that tactic, and simply call the left antisemitic.
What a powerful, all-purpose tool it is.
Late David Graeber, who was Jewish, had a few things to say about that too (Thanks, bol, for reminding me of him the other day):
... and, if I may add, purely from a pragmatic point of view, wasting time and energy on this sadistic, spiteful, vengeful horror show that will only throw the party into chaos is the dumbest thing that you could think of. It's genuinely worse than the Russiagate craze of the Democratic party across the pond.
I can only assume that those people at Labour have priorities of their own that have nothing to do with the well-being of British people.

You don't have to trust me on the US election, but you should trust me on the pandemic: It's going to be a lot better in 2021. I'm not sure if we'll be able to do the Olympics, but you don't give a shit, do you? It seems to me that even most Japanese don't.
So, other than that, we'll see the end of the tunnel. But this one, this cycle, it's going to be pretty tough. Not just in the Americas and Europe, but elsewhere too. Even in Asia, I think.
This winter is going to be pretty rough. I don't know how rough, but very very rough. But I think it's going be the last one. And if we get through it, we'll see the light.
Just trust me on that, so do what you gotta do. Don't be a jerk. Wear a mask, and stay alert.
And keep your loved ones safe.

I can assure you that this man is the biggest moron in the US politics.
The most vacuous, stupid, self-important, slimy piece of shit. If this clown is the hope of the "moderate Republicans," that faction has no future whatsoever.

Texas looks... kind of blue.
No way. Maybe in 2024, but this year?
No way.

Again, I'm still waiting for apologies from both the conservatives and liberals who attacked me 18 years ago for calling this man a first-class idiot who is so shallow and vapid that it takes him only half an hour to genuinely start believing his own bullshit.
I still see people saying shit like, "I remember when Rudy was sane..." No, this is not about sanity. He doesn't believe all the conspiracy theory crap now because he's insane; He was always, always the kind of a man who would fall into the rabbit hole, because he's just a very foolish man to begin with. He's perfectly "sane" in this clip.

I know two Japanese Covid long-haulers, and one is 36 (woman); The other is only 20 (man).
Don't ever think it's just other people. I assume most of you are well within the long-hauler range.

South Dakota has one of the worst outbreaks IN THE WORLD right now.
And here's the governor:
In case you haven't gotten it yet, Kristi Noem is known to be fairly crazy. Pretty much the craziest governor in the US, and believe me, there's some tough competition there.
No one gives a shit only because it's South Dakota.

I've been superspreading these pieces of information about superspreading events in this thread for months now, but this is a very good one so you should read it. vis.sciencemag.org/covid-clusters/

People often make fun of Japan for its "cheap-looking buildings," but if this country were full of majestic buildings made of stone, well, guess what would happen.
Do you know how many earthquakes this country has per year, and how many of them are even bigger than the one that hit Greece/Turkey today?
Japanese buildings are deliberately lightweight, hollow and thus *flexible and elastic*. That's very important if you must assume that the ground moves sometimes.
You are not allowed to build a European-style brick building in this country, because that's the absolute worst with earthquakes.

LOL
See? Republicans goto any length, truly any length short of killing their own parents and children, for power.

So yeah, I'm almost certain everyone in my office got infected. My family likely got infected as well.

Everyone should get tested ASAP, though. Often it's *really* just the flu (which can easily make you a lot sicker than Covid-19 would if you are young). But I guess you have very good reasons to suspect that.
A vast majority of people only get mild-or-less symptoms, so don't get too spooked by it, but at the same time, stay alert all the time as Covid-19 is a bit unpredictable and sometimes gets drastically bad all of a sudden. If you or someone else gets very sick all of a sudden, breathing problems in particular, you need to go to the hospital ASAP. Trying to tough it out at home is a bad idea. You don't want to have your organ(s) permanently scarred. Just stay alert.
I hope everything is going to be okay with you and your family.
