You know, Texas is its own world. It has everything. It has both incredible imbeciles and incredible geniuses. It's so culturally and ethnically diverse. Only California can rival it.
But it's been a non-stop fucking clusterfuckery this year. Everything the state has done was an embarrassment of the highest order. And this is their latest shit:
You know, I've had enough. It'd be silly of me to call myself a "Texan," but feel ashamed all the same. It's an embarrassing crap state, a stain on the American tablecloth. I hope it's changing, and it probably is, but I won't stay there for much longer, long enough to actually enjoy that "change."

I see the German popular opinion now markedly shifting toward taking the Covid situation very seriously, and that's always the most important thing. You can impose whatever as a government, but the real consensus can only come out of the population's willingness to tackle the problem together.
Frankly most Germans obviously didn't take it seriously enough until recently.

Actually I don't care about weed. But Jon Ossoff in Georgia should say this every 10 minutes. Shameless attempt to win apolitical votes, sure, but he gotta do everything to have any chance at all to win the election. Marijuana legalization is extremely popular among Americans now, but Republicans can't run on it. Use it.

The general public is unfortunately extremely susceptible to post hoc fallacy ("Since event Y followed event X, event Y must have been caused by event X."). Crackpots will take advantage of it.

It was a long time ago, easily more than 10 years ago, but I still remember an epidemiologist naming "Scandinavia/Nordic" as a region that would do better than most other regions in a pandemic, for cultural, geographical, economic reasons.
He was (mostly) right, it seems.

The Flemish Word of the Year this year is Knuffelcontact(hugging mate?). Covidioot came in second.
Very good choice, given what Belgium has had to go through. There must have been plenty of human drama - stories to tell - behind that strange word.

The Dutch wordt of the year is Anderhalvemetersamenleving (6ft society/social distance society) which is funny, because looking at the numbers clearly nobody gives a fuck about the rules.
Anderhalvemetersamenleving. Even to me as a native speaker it almost looks like a jibberish word at ten fucking syllables.
