Thank you. I'd kinda deserve to be told to go back to mama and rant to her as much as you like instead of littering this place with your stupid garbage you fucking basement-dwelling loser, and stuff like that, but I get thanks instead here. You guys are incredibly nice. So... you live in a basement? Yes, actually. My work space is in a basement, and I spend most of my time there (here). It's debatable whether or not I'm a loser, but basement-dwelling, yes, I am!

I received an anonymous email which says:
and nothing else. No ad, no Nigerian trust fund, nothing. Just this question/riddle.
I think I know the answer to this riddle, but who the hell sent this to me? Creepy.

No, AOC is wrong, although she may be just being rhetorical there.
Abbott is not "ignorant." This is a purely political move. If the election were to happen this month he would lose. This is his big comeback move, to completely solidify the conservative votes in rural Texas, where many people, even hardcore Christians, were deeply dissatisfied with Abbott because of the Covid shitshow and disastrous blackout.

This is incorrect too. Blow to DeSantis as judge rules Florida cannot enforce mask mandate banJudge rules against governor while appeals court decides whether ban on public schools mandating masks is ultimately legal www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/sep/08/florida-mask-mandate-ban-ron-desantis-judgeNot a "blow" to DeSantis at all. The most - I mean, ONLY important thing for him was to make a political gesture of I Am With You Fighting For Freedom. He's already done that. Not a blow at all. Hell, I bet he likes it. He can paint himself as a fighter.

Again, this is purely anecdotal, but in Japan, most of the people who die of Covid-19 and are not very old or with underlying medical conditions seem overweight.
Obesity was linked to severe Covid-19 from the beginning, and there have been studies and statistics that pretty much prove that's the case, but I think people underestimate how big a factor it is. Just because more people have died in Italy (low obesity/overweight rate) than in Germany (high obesity/overweight rate) doesn't mean it's not a big factor. It's probably huge.
It's probably one of the biggest reasons why there have been so much fewer Covid deaths in Japan than in the US and others. Cases per capita in Japan shouldn't be THAT much lower than in the US considering that Japan is the undisputed world idiot champion of under-testing, but deaths per capita is still far more than an order of magnitude lower than in the US even though Japan was absolutely savaged by both Alpha and Delta with very low vaccination rates and no lockdown and fully open schools.

Yes, please, if true.
Fucking overdue, but very good.
Those idiotic nurses and doctors can really, really take the hike. They simply chose a wrong job, _philosophically_ speaking even. They should go find another one.

OK, briefly I re-read previous posts, and realized that I was too condescending to rural Afghanis in one of the rants.
I mean, just imagine being born into and growing up in a war for your entire life. In rural Afghanistan, it was all just war for 20 years. In the first half of this 21st year of the war, more than 1,700 Afghan civilians were killed, and half of them were women and children.
Kabul wasn't exactly a Helsinki, but a vast, vast majority of the battlefields were in rural areas.
The rural Afghanis are just sick and tired of the war. Whatever can end it is good for them. Most of them are very young, and have to think about their future. They say if it's the Taliban, okay, fine, I will find a way to make my future there. I will adapt, hustle, whatever. I gotta live anyhow.
The extension of the status quo - of the US occupation - would totally fuck it up, and those young Afghanis will have to continue to live in despair for God-knows-how-many more years. But no one in the West gives a shit about them, so you NEVER hear even a fart about them.

I would be actually impressed if most of those unvaccinated petit-bourgeois fashion-contrarian right-wing American idiots actually quit their job in protest against the Biden vaccine mandate.
But I won't because that ain't happening. Have you met those people? Most of them hardly ever walk the walk, unless you consider getting Covid and actually dying in the ICU bed - while weeping and regretting it - to be "walk the walk."
Their French counterparts are actually tougher, but couldn't make a dent in their protest against the Macron vaccine mandate.

I was talking about these polls in the previous one:
I'm not saying they don't actually believe what they are saying. You can be serious about your own performative outrage.
But at the end of the day, performative outrage is just that, performative outrage. Most people wouldn't sacrifice the food on the table for that as the basic instinct kicks in to protect them from their own idiocy in the last minute.

In most cases, instantly killing off the target viruses is not what vaccines are intended for. Rather, they are for gradually weakening the viruses' ability to spread.
Breakthrough infections do occur, and your protection probably does wane over time, perhaps more quickly than originally thought with these Covid-19 vaccines.
But that's okay as long as we can _tame_ the virus, to turn it into something much less than a catastrophe/panic producer.
I mean, even if you are vaccinated, you should kind of expect to be in touch with our beloved SARS-CoV-2 at some point in the future. The vaccine is there to make sure that - unless you are extremely unlucky - the infection won't be a major event in your life.
People like to criticize the institutions and governments for their messaging mistakes, and so do I, but you should also understand how hard it is to convey these nuances to the general public.
The pandemic will end, and it will be probably caused by the combination of our collective immunity and the virus getting less toxic in itself in the process. It's actually a long game. But hopefully it will be a game where around less than half way through you even forget that it was a game at all, thanks to those vaccines.
That's what we ought to be grateful about.

This zombie represents the utter mediocrity of today's America. This depresses me like hell not only because of the sheer stupidity of it, but also because of... what should we call it?
Why should I feel this extremely embarrassed about someone with whom I have absolutely nothing in common, like this loser?
These Freedom Fighters are total cringe factories, but there are so many fucking Mandels out there in the cornfield called USA that you realize that grifting is incredibly easier nowadays, if even this zombie can get more than 10 supporters.
Jesus fucking Christ, he looks like a real state broker trying to bury in the cornfield the dead body of a prostitute that he accidentally choked to death during sex. We live in a fucking Coen Brothers movie.

The CDC published a report, and the data were collected and analyzed during the Delta-dominant period. And according to nine states analysis: According to the Department of Veteran Affairs, carefully controlled and adjusted head-to-head between the two mRNA vaccines: What a triumph. What a dominant performance. Rejoice, ModernaBros, my people. Our vaccine development was funded by Dolly Parton after all. Of course we are special. I must admit: I DO feel some tiny sense of solidarity with other Moderna takers, which makes me realize tribalism is really an incredibly persistent human disease. It could be over fucking ANYTHING. (Seriously, though, any of the vaccines works reasonably well. Just get a shot already if you haven't. J&J would do just fine. And remember Moderna is likely to give you tougher times after the injection, particularly the second one, than the other vaccines, including AstraZeneca. The second dose knocked me out for two days FYI.)

A 20-year-long war is over, with a disastrous result with essentially none of the stated goals achieved, and not even one US official has resigned. And the strangest of all is that no one seems to care about that.
I hope more people will realize how absolutely surreal and ridiculous it actually is.
