This looks batshit crazy from outside America, and I know you tell me it does from inside too, but NO, it looks batshit crazier from outside. You think you can't take it anymore, but everyone has this capability to tacitly raise the threshold to adapt to the environment. I know you feel that you can't take it anymore, but you can, and will.

Revisiting "That makes sense to me."
Yes, I do use that phrase, and will continue to, but you should always remember that there is the invisible "for what it is worth" after that, in big, bold letters. Or even "and that might not mean shit."
The most important part is that invisible addendum. "And what is it worth?" is the question to be answered.
The confusion arises when people don't understand that, and that allows grifters and narcissistic idiots to keep grifting away. I'm sure Joe Rogan is perfectly aware of the "FWIW", albeit probably in dim 6pt Helvetica font given his understandably inflated ego at this point, but the fans who love Rogan because he "tells it like it is"? Not really.
TMSTM (That Makes Sense To Me) has no intrinsic value on its own.

I'm keeping track of how long those people (typically blue-checked) on Twitter with the Ukrainian flag in the display name will keep it on this time.

LOL @ the house where the head of the Oath Keepers lived: Wouldn't be surprised if he lived next door to a multi-millionaire woman doing aroma business who bought 100 copies of White Fragility and sent 99 of them to her friends and relatives, and the two actually got along reasonably well.

My position since late-2020 on Covid has been remarkably consistent and simple; Just get vaccinated, and don't be a dick or drama queen over the rules that your community deemed necessary. That's it. No more, no less.
Of course you could add "unless those rules are highly irrational and harmful on balance", but honestly I've never heard of any Covid rule anywhere even close to being egregious enough to invoke that clause.
But people do want to complicate and dramatize things for no good reason at all.

I like the joyful nature of the old Japanese post-war ads for Hiropon (very strong meth), but this is not nearly as old and just incredible.

So, Boris Johnson might be kicked out because of a surprise party that he genuinely didn't know about and didn't even like? Is that it? Everything about the story is absurd even beyond the issue of whether it's true or not. I just don't understand how things work in that country, man. I get a strong "Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown" vibe. (Late reply!) 16 or so parties at Downing Street whilst there were restrictions on the rest of us for doing this... I'm not good at writing long essays so I will let someone else do it for me! bylinetimes.com/2022/01/20/the-hangover-of-bullingdon-club-britain/The only thing surprising to me is that the media decided that this was a story of wrongdoing they would actually run with. Maybe because it's just such an obvious case of "one rule for you and another for them", and the media loves simplicity.

Maybe because it's just such an obvious case of "one rule for you and another for them", and the media loves simplicity. I guess that's the crux of the matter - the media. As far as I can see, the British mainstream media, a large part of it, has been the main force that has bailed him out of all the "scandals" and "incidents", over and over again. I guess they think their own vapidness can be justified by keeping a hedonistic character like him in Downing Street. And if you had asked me to guess whether Johnson had a secret party or two despite the restrictions, I would've answered YES. That's precisely what you should and would expect from him, and I assumed that all Britons understood that kind of typical Eton fuckery was part of the package deal called Boris Johnson. It seems that it was a lot more than "a party or two" after all. But I thought, if it turned out that the leak on a secret party was all it took to destroy him, that would be super anti-climatic, like seeing Palpatine slain by someone like Lando Calrissian in the final episode of Star Wars. He survived all the Jedi attacks, and then pathetically folds like that against fucking Lando? Really? I also thought that it seemed like the most efficient and least damaging way for Tories to ditch the man that they clearly disliked, but then that petit conspiracy theory of mine also quickly crumbled as the Tories didn't seem to know what they were doing either. It does seem to me that Johnson has been shitting all over the place and generally screwing up big time over this. But I still can't believe this is it for him. Fool me once etc., you know. So, in a nutshell, I still don't understand UK politics at all, lol.

A lot of Americans are rightly sick and tired of Texas, and wouldn't mind it leaving the US. Some freedom-loving right-wing non-Texans would like to move to Independent Texas too, and needless to say, there are a lot of Texans who want to go independent.
Well, independent Texas would be a joke. It would crumble faster than you can say "Winter storm!" as the ongoing fiasco over the power grid (again) gives you some hint.
If you seriously think independent Texas nation is a viable solution to anything, you really, really don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Texas relies so much on the US that it's not even funny, and the things that they run on their own, the power grid for instance, are all so badly mismanaged that they need to be overhauled as soon as the state go independent. And where's the money for that?
What the fuck would independent Texas do anyway? Become an oil-producing tax haven? Yeah, the state is placed in that area, and become that. Cool. That's for sure a cool way to piss off your giant neighbors called the United States of America and Mexico.
It would be bound to piss of the United States of America big time no matter what, though, especially since the country would be mostly run by highly confused ideologues as most sane Texans would just leave. So, yeah, try that.

I like Whoopi Goldberg movies a lot, so it's sad that she volunteered to come out as a spectacularly stereotypical Dumb Yank like this, with such a Jewish last name to boot, lol.
It's somehow so hard for some Americans to understand the average German does not view the average Romanian or even Spaniard as a "fellow white". That's not how "race" works in Europe *even today*, let alone back in the 1930s.
In the US, peoples like Armenians, Georgians, and Turks and even Iranians if they change their last name can be and *are* "white". That's a thoroughly alien concept to most Europeans. I mean, I know I'm being a massive captain obvious here, but it's truly amazing that this is still a thing that causes confusion like this.
Whoopi must think this contrarianism is clever or even cute, but it's nothing more than dumb American exceptionalism good for nothing and in this case super offensive to Jews and the other racial victims of Nazism. Jeez, I'm being such a captain obvious here, I know. But it's not just Whoopi, and I'm tired of it.

Take a look at the last names of those white nationalists, or even white supremacists, in the US. Not just Johnsons and Smiths (many of them originally "Schmidt", incidentally) and Millers (many of them originally Mueller, likewise), but loads and loads and loads of Eastern European names, almost disproportionately.
The US used to be more racist in the Old World way, but today's "white race" in America is highly inclusive. The white nationalist movement shows that very clearly.

I think I've talked about it here before, but many of those Smiths (Schmidt) and Millers (Müller) and Kings (König) and so on in America decided to anglicize their surnames because of the anti-German racism caused by World War I. They largely stopped speaking German in their daily lives too. That's one major part of the history of the "white" assimilation in America.

The only thing that I remember about Tucker Carlson is that he bitched about the spinach - fucking spinach - and insisted that we should not tip. There were a lot of other people too, and I was too sick to remember anything else.
Baltimore is fucking awesome, man. Too many black people for his liking, of course. A "Haiti" all right.

This is seriously misguided. The UK isn't important enough to cause a major global catastrophe on its own, and thus there are only a few scenarios where that could theoretically happen, but this one is dangerously close.
This is a case of a government being utterly delusional. No surprise it's a British one. Utterly incapable of backing it up, but just huffing and puffing like a fucking idiot.
