Nope, Brexit was also the result of one too many Britons being excessively British. That's the conclusion of Sir Occam's razor and Mr. Captain Obvious. At the very least it was certainly not "caused by Putin".

A famous scholar is saying that Russia will outright lose this war militarily, like not even after a long insurgency/guerrilla asymmetric warfare hell, but just a straightforward loss in the battlefield. Extremely ominous sign... for Ukrainians, because it's Francis Fukuyama. Preparing for Defeatwww.americanpurpose.com/articles/preparing-for-defeat/

Hey, my man has a savior, and his name is....why, of course Anders "Swedish Shock Therapy Fanboy" Aslund! The best (worst) of the best (worst). Biden actually listened to these Atlantic Council ghouls. And you wonder why the Global South wants to stay out of this Northern shitshow. To quote a certain American neo-Nazi guy whose Louisiana conference I attended years ago, " some of those people, in D.C. and London and many other places" are " itching to say what we have always been saying, that is, the USSR and Stalin were the true evil and Hitler was actually the good guy fighting that giant evil, but that would be politically incorrect. They have jobs, and kids they have to send to an Ivy school, you know! Their dad can't be a Nazi sympathizer! I totally understand! (laughter)" And down that rabbit hole you reach a place where you *have to* argue that Putin is worse than someone who attempted to and nearly succeeded in systematically and meticulously exterminating a certain group of people based on a conspiracy theory, and what kids would call today "vibes". But according to Aslund, gassing people in a concentration camp is *not* "chemical" warfare, which he accuses Putin of being about to engage in (hence H > Putin). I won't even give you a screenshot here, but that's the way he goes on and on. You don't even know what the point is, but they have to do it, because that's who they are. The masks come off in times like this. This isn't even the first time.

These people fancy themselves as the guardians of the liberal world order. Again, I totally understand why the Global South isn't fully on board. At least you wouldn't want to limit your choices to Putin and these nutjobs.
But then, you find China in between, and that's another problem altogether.

I was treated like a VIP at said conference because I was the only East Asian there (there were a couple of wealthy Indians, though). Novelty value. Those guys think of "Northeast Asians", particularly the Japanese, honorary white. I had to lie through the whole conference since I was there just for a field work.
And then at another conference, I was nearly kicked out because I wasn't white. That world is not quite simple either.

When I named Madison Cawthorn as the worst American, I kind of disappointed an editor because, why that clown? So not like you! It would be one thing to be worried about someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene as she's a bit of a fund-raising juggernaut now, but why that piece of shit, that Starship-Troopers-meets-Dr.Strangelove-meets-Johnny-from-the-Karate-Kid?
Well, my answer is that he's a perfect encapsulation of the stupid narcissism and crude contrarianism that has plagued the US for a few decades now. He's an idiot jock who has no substance whatsoever on his own, but I really can't think of anyone else more grotesque and cringeworthy and therefore terrifying than him given the political situation.
Recently he learned to lie like hell and get away with it. You might say, "Politicians lie all the time!" but NO, this is a bit different. Yes, very similar to Donald Trump, but he has a way to lie his way out of trouble and uncomfortable moments. Cawthorn, OTOH, just, you know, lies, full stop. Not even for entertainment, but for the vibes. There's just void there.
Pelosi doesn't drink at all. She doesn't even drink coffee. Everyone who knows anything about her knows that, and this man is a colleague of her.
Again, politicians lie. But usually not the way this moron does.

I've already written the template of "China/Xi Is About To Abandon the Zero-Covid Policy Now" a long time ago, and even revised it after Omicron emerged. In fact I almost published it (not here, though) once. I won't go into the details, but it's diarrhea that stopped it. And thank God it did, as China hasn't been anywhere near abandoning it so far.
Omicron is a real bitch, though. It really is.
I don't understand (of course I do, but just a manner of speech) why many Americans and others are making fun of China in a mysteriously triumphant tone - 5,000 > 1,000,000 in their math, I guess, and should I even mention the per capita numbers? - but anyway, it seems that they have locked down Shenzhen now.
Wait, what, Shenzhen?!
Holy crap, man.
It's going to hit the economy, by which I mean the Chinese one AND global one, very hard. But they are going ahead anyway.
Needless to say, my "China/Xi Is About To Abandon the Zero-Covid Policy Now" will still stay unpublished for now.

Omicron is pretty much the worst variant ever. You don't feel that way because you are blinded by "mild" - and I'm saying that as one of the first non-experts who asserted that it was intrinsically a lot less virulent than Delta - or/and your community was well-protected by an immunity wall, through mRNA-vaccination and perhaps stupidly high previous infection rates too.
But it's the worst, and seeing Hong Kong plunge into a deep Omicron hell where elderly people are dying at an astonishing pace, I'm very much worried about an insane Whack-a-mole round that China might end up in.

And it seems to be coming back in Europe too, with hospital admissions rising pretty fast in many countries.

Jeez, it has been barely three weeks since the case number started falling in those countries (Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria etc.). It's now getting back up fast. Huh.
I saw an Austrian commentator declare the Omicron wave "fading away" only two weeks ago, and it seems that the case # has already gone even higher than the previous peak now.

In Japan Omicron has been basically Children's Weird Cold That They Transmit To Their Grandparents Who Sometimes Die Of It Despite Been Vaccinated, and therefore extremely hard to deal with.
It's the worst variant ever.

This should tell you right there how ill prepared the Russians were for the invasion. It seems that they don't even have enough fucking rations for the soldiers. Appalling.

It seems that quite a few Brazilian far-right volunteers have been pouring into Ukraine to fight the Russians, but I would put 95% of them in the second category of foreign volunteers. It's mostly purely symbolic, but the Ukrainian neo-nazis and those Brazilians have been allied with each other for years.
