I'm mildly offended by people who compare Elon Musk's tweets over the last few years and Donald Trump's, since Donald's were one gazillion times funnier, more entertaining and original than the former, which are frankly tedious the same way Andrew Yang is.
He's one of those rich people (e.g. JK Rowling) who should've never tweeted. He's the same asshole on and off Twitter, but I much, much prefer the latter asshole.

So, Zelensky and others started talking about Ukrainian casualties, and people online are shocked - shocked, I'm telling you! - to learn that Ukrainians have been actually dying on a huge scale in the battles. And they react to that non-news "news" in the most predictably hysterical way, calling for escalation etc.
Again, it's just grotesque. Their getting irrationally emotional over something that doesn't actually concern them personally while being delusional about their own knowledge on what's going on suggests that it's a fucking video game or a Liverpool vs. Manchester United for them.

Every time I see people's naive reaction to the realities of war, I feel pessimistic about the future of humanity.
I can never understand why some people are so delusional about it. What makes them so lacking in basic imagination?

NATO: "OK, let's pretend, again, that the ethnic cleansing of the Kurds isn't happening, so that Sweden and Finland will feel safe against the super-unrealistic hypothetical Russian aggression of a sort."
...is the gist of it. Good for Turkey that I'm probably the only non-Kurd who cares about the Kurds.

The "Partygate" in the UK seems even worse than I thought. And it's kind of remarkable that the overwhelming feeling/sensation that I get is not even disgust, but pity. Just how unfathomably pathetic those British elites are.
I wonder what Evelyn Waugh would say about this whole sorry state of affairs. How far it has fallen.

Hopefully Asad and the Kurds can co-operate enough to stop Turkey from doing too much damage.

RIP Ray Liotta.
Goodfellas is one of my favorite films. Guess I'm rewatching it soon.

I've been saying forever that the biggest problem with the US police is that for an overarmed paramilitary, they suck donkey cocks. Can't solve shit, can't stop shit. And this is definitely a big reason for that.

Finally the reality has started leaking out of the box, it seems. It's been effectively verboten to tell the truth about the condition of Ukrainian forces. This is the first US mainstream media article about it, I think.
It was clear that this second phase became a monstrous artillery battle. Artillery is one thing that Russia is exceptionally hardcore about.
Ukrainians have been slaughtered, but it's considered treasonous for Ukrainian soldiers on the front to bitch about the horrible conditions.
And on the Russian side, they have been treating the Donetsk/Luhansk separatist troops like they are expendable cannon fodders, saving the Russian troops for safer operations.
The DPR/LPR guys didn't ask Putin for this offensive. It's simply him/siloviki trying to save their faces after the historic blunder in the first phase of the war, hiding the fact that they have already lost it, shoving this hell into the face of those guys while saying, "This is your war after all, so you'll do the hardest part." Pretty fucked up. Orcs, indeed.
All of these things would be complete news to you if your understanding of this war is based on the TikTok/Twitter videos.
I still think Russia is too slow, though. The longer it takes, the harder it becomes for Russia.

Minority rule always ends badly. Always. And that's where the US is. I don't think I need to tell you what percentage of Americans would support some form of gun control.

Yeah an overall terrible situation, but at least they know Asad will be content with only cultural genocide. Your enemy's enemy is usually an enemy too, but one does what one can do given the circumstances, especially when you really have no actual friends. Ones that matter anyway. The word "Assadist" gives me so much nostalgia. They threw that one at me as if that would hurt me or something.
