Not Rizin, Bellator. It’s a postlim fight that won’t get broadcast stateside, lol He outlasted the k-1 contract and went on to Rizin saying he’s going to prove K-1 superiority vs other orgs (by kickboxing MMA fighters I guess)

I just hope it won't turn into a debacle like Kimura getting mauled by Krazy Horse.
Keep in mind that Ren hasn't fought in well over a year..
Very weird spot for him to be in.
Also 'postliminary card' is the dumbest fucking thing I ever heard.

Something that's been really bothering me since going over Twitter and listening to Warman's latest podcast.
This exchange during an exhibition fight:
Was better than all of Badr/Rico2. I'm not trying to throw shade here, because I liked that fight myself and to a degree was excited by the hype. It's just that some people appear to be under the delusion that Badr/Rico2 one of the greatest kickboxing fights ever.
Now, in terms of reach/hype/media attention, especially in the Netherlands? Sure. In terms of highest level of heavyweight competition this year? Sure, I'll give you that.
And honestly that's nothing to scoff at; 'For kickboxing' this was a great event, in spite of another injury putting a dent in it.
But in terms of actual fight quality or even narrative?
NO, HELL NO, it's not even close.
Better quality fights happen almost every week. Hell, there were better fights on that very card.
It's just that high profile heavyweight matchups are rare nowadays. They used to happen every few weeks for over a decade during the FEG K-1 era. It's just that the western world wasn't paying attention back then.
I aggressively reject the notion that 'The West' watching somehow makes something the biggest thing ever. 30k crowd is awesome, but K-1 used to sell out Tokyo Dome at twice that amount for a decade.

Yup. For a business, maybe, doing numbers in the US/"West" means they can extract more money from it but big is big no matter where it happens.

Also speculation on if karaevfan rage quit twitter or what happened. Caposa had some issue too and people wondered if twitter offed them over copyright things or what. But I guess you can just temporarily deactivate your twitter account so not a biggie. I never see Karaev being too serious on twitter

My last posts were melodramatic so I can see why folks would think that I actually just wanted to pull myself out of the NYE vortex this year and get some good sleep in heading into 2020. Deactivated my account just so I can’t stray back. Will be back soonish

I do get where the Warman is coming from. While there's good "action" happening in kickboxing all the time, the fragmentation of the sport is leading to less "big fight" peaks. The sport is healthier than its been in a while, but without those moments to reside in collective memory its hard to look back and appreciate what's been happening I do think the Glory crew has been a bit hyperbolic in proclaiming Badr Rico "the biggest single fight in kickboxing" (lets be real, this was a mid-tier Final 8 fight for K-1 and its a semantic trick not to count GPs for not being built around single fights when the sport's history has been built around GPs), I'm fine with giving them a pass as they needed this to pay off big.

And I get that. I get having that 'big fight feel'. This was a big event for kickboxing and it got a lot of people talking. I don't blame Glory at all for proclaiming this as the biggest thing ever, because it's basic marketing/promo stuff; every promotion claims to be the best/biggest when in reality there's usually little validity to such statements.
I even get casual fans buying into the hype machine and going with the biggest fight ever claim. They simply don't know better and perhaps like being able to say they've been part of something great.
When highly educated fans do, though - while it's certainly their right to hold that opinion - I almost feel like they're guilty of historical revisionism. Of course it's all up for debate, but if this was one of the biggest things ever to happen in the sport, what the fuck have I been watching for these past ~20 years?
Like you said, there's just been somewhat of a drought for 'big fights' in an age where the sport may be healthy, but fracturation of the landscape is a big hurdle no matter how you look at it.
To end my overreactionary rant, here's a little bit that sums up how I feel, albeit with some snark.
