No matchups announced yet, but I really like that we're getting another December event.

I actually saw this event listed about a week ago, but then it was still on the calendar for late November.
Figured it might be moved a bit to have it function as a late season closer in December and that's what they did.
As far as I'm concerned the card doesn't have to be mega-stacked as long as we're getting some fun, entertaining fights.

We have a full card! (OP updated) Kimura vs Jordan Pikeur would be great ! Unfortunately it's not Pikeur, but I'm hoping the Himalayan Cheetah is no joke. Kimura vs. Pikeur 2 would be the perfect revenge match for K'Festa 4, though.

Did I just hear that correctly ? Yoshiki Takei is retiring from kickboxing to pursue a career in boxing. Shocking.

Yup, sucks. When I saw him hand over his belt I felt uneasy and then I heard him say boxing and was like of course...

So many KO's! And I missed the first seven of them lol.
To make matters worse, Takei Yoshiki announced his retirement from kickboxing to move to boxing. I hope he does well and will keep tabs on him, but it sucks he's leaving kickboxing. Big loss for K-1 as well. Definitely the worst thing about this event.
How was I supposed to get behind this event now?
It's funny. It always takes me a while to get into an event - especially when I just woke up and start watching - and the fight that really got me into it today was Shimano/Ashizawa. It was awesome! I thought Shimano was finished after that second knockdown, but then he gets up and scores a knockdown of his own. Then absolute brawl insanity kicked off and while I was hoping for Shimano to make it to the end of the round it was probably the best decision by the ref to end it there even if it came at the very last second of the round.
Unfortunately, Urabe/Saiga went on to completely murder the momentum of the event. I will never understand when fighters stubbornly keep using the same techniques that already landed low on their opponents in the same fight. Penalties must be more severe. One warning, next point deduction, next DQ. I'm confident we'll see less low blow 'repeats' when fighters are more urgently forced to adjust their fighting style. It's a shame, the fight was decent before.
Luckily, Kimura vs. Abiral came to the rescue with the Himalayan Cheetah catching Kimura by surprise in being the first one to score a knockdown in this fight. Kimura looked a bit shaky, but was quick with the comeback after which it turned into a wild brawl and luckily it got past the first round, because I was really liking this fight. Unfortunately, Abiral's cut kept getting worse so it was inevitably stopped. Despite being ended by a cut, I feel this fight really revived the momentum of the fight.
I just hope Abiral gets invited back, because he's fun to watch and tough as nails. I feel like Kimura/Abiral 2 and Kimura/Pikeur 2 are both legit fights to make for K'Festa 4.
Apparently Kimura called out Mayweather after the fight LOL. Well, if some crappy YouTuber gets to fight him, why shouldn't a legit fighter get a chance?
On to the main event. Hayashi/Gonnapar was a very solid, competitive fight with some brawly moments. While I wouldn't have minded an extra round, I was happy that they didn't just spin it in Hayashi's favor here and Gonnapar got the decision after three rounds. While he was mostly backpedaling, he was throwing in higher volume and definitely the more complete kickboxer as Hayashi barely threw kicks. Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly, but I think this makes him the second Thai champion in K-1 after Kaew..? Either way, good stuff!
Now, I can't speak on the event as a whole yet because I tuned in when Wajima was beating up Fujioka, but will definitely catch up with all those juicy knockouts that came before (and share some additional thoughts after doing so).
Just looking at the stats though; 11 stoppages out of 17 fights is very nice. Sure, some of the results ruled as KO's are TKO's rather than proper knockouts, but that usually means more knockdowns. Can't wait for the KD/KO highlight reel on K-1's YouTube channel.
