Yeah not really sure the American fighters are going to do anything besides being used as fodder now that Glory seems to be abandoning the US market.
Only good & marketable fighter they have on their roster is Van Soest.

 Matt Baker vs. Serkan Ozcaglayan added I'm getting less excited with each announced matchup. Some of them are okay, but after Rico/Alistair and Benny/Jamal the drop is very steep. |

Don't quite get them putting all these Americans on. Are Americans buying kickboxing PPV's or what?
They got Ulianov vs Vidales listed on the website too. That could be decent fun.

We're like 9 fights in now and I don't care too much about most of them. Are they really banking on a bunch of Overeem fans/Americans buying the PPV? Because I don't really see who else would.
Of course cards that don't look great on paper can still end up blowing everyone away, but for a 'collision' event which is supposed to be this awesome card, this is looking very average overall.
After the spectacle of G78 I was expecting this to be at least somewhat comparable.

Some notable comments from the presser (paraphrasing the quotes):
Alistair
- I said I'd beat Rico 100 times out of a 100 street fights, because MMA is closer to a real fight in the streets. I don't want to be cocky, but I think even Rico would admit that. Kickboxing isn't real fighting, which is why this fight will be exciting.
- You're not gonna find 16 fighters anymore to do a Final 16 / Final 8. You could find 8, but not 16. Even K-1 started to run into that issue.
- Rico isn't entirely my type.
- Not looking past Rico yet, but a next opponent.. maybe Badr..?
- I do feel that I'm getting older, but I am still kicking ass.
- I think Rico is going to be the best kickboxer that I have ever faced.
Rico
- We'll see what happens on October 23rd. Glory has set up an amazing event and they have drug testing!
- On the question if the age difference will influence the fight: "It's like an old car vs a new car..... he may have experience, but it won't make a difference."
- I think a direct title fight makes sense. If Alistair fought someone else first and lost, this fight wouldn't make sense anymore.
- I got a big fanbase, not just in the Netherlands.
- To clarify. It wouldn't make sense for me to fight Badr at this point. I win all my fights, he loses all his fights. If he wins a few fights again we can talk. It's got nothing to do with disrespect. It has to make sense.
- Due to his combined experiences in kickboxing and MMA, his fighting style is going to be different from my previous opponents.
Additional notes:
- Rico also mentioned his contract runs until 2023 and he could imagine retiring after that, but he isn't sure yet.
- No-brainer, but there is a rematch clause.
My own thoughts:
Even though I will always cringe at the Engrish moments - and there were plenty - overall the presser was pretty relaxed and the way they set up the venue was very nice.
They both gave each other some jabs, but kept it mostly friendly and professional.

Haven't really seen the need for McSweeney in Glory. Not against having him either, if he isn't too expensive at least.
Would rather see Glory committing to Ilunga for 95kg and contract some younger HWs than McSweeney if they want to have more HWs.
Tho didn't Ilunga kinda sorta go fight outside Glory without their permission after he felt he was kinda robbed. Then managed to lose...could be hard feelings on both sides there.
