Yup. Also definitely doesn't look like MMA should be his path forward either.
If he wants to keep fighting, should probably just do some winnable low pay HW hoxing fight to revive the hopes of getting a big payday there. Or come back to kickboxing if he doesn't want to box anymore.

Spong making a return to MMA at this point did catch me off guard. He didn't really look comfortable in his previous MMA fight against a much less experienced fighter than Kharitonov - and that was 9 years ago.
I can't imagine it was because of Spong's passion for MMA. This was probably just about a decent payday against a big name after a long lay-off.
Spong dipping his toes in different disciplines after breaking his leg in kickboxing is something I can fully understand, but he never took his boxing run as far as it could have gone, making it essentially a waste of time. Of course it didn't help that he pissed hot when he was finally about to fight Usyk, but it is what it is.
In an interview a couple of days ago Spong mentioned he'd only return to kickboxing for a major fight/payday and while I kinda hope that happens I wouldn't hold my breath. Even if I do feel that's where he should finish his career. As long as he feels good physically he should still have enough years left in him to make another run.

Trevor Bryant has the low level world title of HW and instead of fighting Spong or someone similar he is fighting a guy ranked 255 on boxrec. Boxing is all politics and Spong doesnt have the kind of connections to dip his toe into MMA while still moving forward in boxing.

Hi Apollo, it's been a while! Good to see XFN back with another card. A couple of questions: - Didn't see Randy Blake on the card, does he still fight? - Couple of weeks ago there was some talk about Glory approaching US promotions for their Rivals program. Did they contact you, by any chance? |

That's why he should 'cut his losses' and return to kickboxing, because I don't think Spong is worth as much as he thinks at this point. Otherwise I'm afraid he'll end up in this weird limbo where all he takes are useless fights. He couldn't have made that much fighting nobodies in boxing. |

K-1!!! I hope all is well. Randy may still have a fight left in him. I believe he will compete in our Oct 8 man tournament on Fight Pass. Glory... I haven't heard from them in a looong time. I wish anybody trying to keep kickboxing alive well! It's lonely sometimes ;-)

This weekend Dmitry Menshikov is going to fight Ismail Uzuner in Russia; is time for Glory to stop fooling around and announce again Hamicha vs Menshikov for the vacant 77kg belt. It would be wonderful if they can snatch Regian Eersel away from ONE as well... I don't want to watch Eersel smash Nieky Holzken again. I would be sad for Nieky.  |

Does anyone remember if before covid kickboxing was always making us feel like we are waiting endlessly for fights to happen? Its been too long now, its like its all Ive ever known. Maybe it is.
