Power-IDK if you caught the thread I made with a recent-ish interview w/ Lomachenko, but I wrote a bit on Loma's past and why he's saw awesome in there. Just catching the H/L's of his performance against Walters is enough, he has an incredible mastery of movement and control with his lead foot, it's almost uncanny.
As for the HW's it seems to be that oft-told tale of "let's get these fights out of the way and THEN we can move onto the good stuff".
David Haye took a strictly business decision in facing Bellew. I'm kind of glad that the Briggs fight was aborted as that would have been an abomination of an event. The fact that social media has raised Briggs profile to the point that it is (or was) is sad enough, but for him to be anywhere near any kind of recognized world title is just wrong. The reason the fight isn't happening is, as always, financially related. Briggs is said to have turned down a $250,000-$300,000 offer for the fight to go down on free to air TV in the UK, with at least two major networks happy and willing to air the event, he wanted to roll the dice and go PPV, and said to be of the belief that he could earn approximately $5m (he's dreaming). Haye claims that he would only agree to a PPV fight if the WBA would agree to attach either their Super or Regular titles to the fight, Briggs said he could guarantee that which in turn led to a deal with UK subscription channel BoxNation being all but announced.
Briggs was only able to get the WBA to put their Interim title on the line, Haye said "Sorry, no dice." And just like that, the fight was colder than a dead mackerel. WBA ultimately ruled that Klit must box when the Super is next on the line (presumably against Anthony Joshua in the spring) and Browne must box when the Regular is on the line. Haye says that he offered Browne $2m to fight for the vacant Regular but was turned down flat. Then Browne failed a random drug test by the WBC, as part of their World Boxing Cares anti-doping 365/24/7 random campaign (strangely, Browne volunteered to be in the program, I don't think he's ranked by the WBC, whilst Haye is so far the biggest name fighter to be booted out of the WBC rankings after refusing to sign up to the policy) and nobody is sure of anything, ATM. Latest rumour is Briggs vs Alexander Ustinov in Russia for the vacant Regular, but I'm not holding my breath on that one being announced.
