LIVE EVENT DISCUSSION THREADkakutougi.proboards.com/thread/959/glory-50-chicagoCorrect me if I'm wrong, but I think it's 10 hours until kick-off from the timestamp of this post. I kinda want to watch this one, but the timeslot is awful for me. Undecided yet if I'll join live.

Pretty bad event.
The main event ruined by the referee.
Benny having some luck in the first fight and use tournament format in his favour.
Non competitive baya vs Sitthichai
boring ugly fight again made by Guto.
And two referee that once again didn't respect the rules:
1. stopping murthel like that.
2. Stopping tafa despite tafa made the count from the low kick. I don't say that tafa would've not gotten dropped again with low kicks, but if he makes it up on his feet and his head is ok, then you cannot stop the fight... simple as that. And it wasn't yet 4 kd to be automatically a TKO.
That being said, I wish that glory would only held events in europe and asia.
Tafa actually fought really well in the final considering he was already tired and fought on one leg. Even in this condition he still landed some punches on benny. I think benny should have box him up and try to finish him with boxing. The way he fought, taking advantage of all these things and still getting out boxed by tafa looked pretty unimpressive. I don't think that this tournament advanced him in the rankings. Just kept him in there where he was before. Jamal, Rico and Badr would ko benny.

I think benny should have box him up and try to finish him with boxing. Are you saying he should've been stupid? He won by being smart, good for him. Sorry he didn't entertain you well enough.

Watched SFS sorta half focusing on some of the fights. Omar Moreno vs. Casey Greene was pretty nice though so that along with Sitti just being a class above left me enjoying that part. Also liked that Sitti was pretty aggressive specially for the couple first rounds. I've liked Sitti but he's had a bit of a shy kid air to him and seemed more adult now. Interesting to see how the inevitable Grigorian fight will go, if Sitti just smashes him again then good luck for Glory to try and find anyone for an even fight with him.
Was this the 1st time 5 judges in the US? Also open scoring. Very nice if they could keep it the same every event and not bounce around 5 judges this time, 3 the next and open scoring half the time but not always.
Didn't agree with the judges giving 2nd round for Tafa, but at least Guto won. Thought that went well all in all tired Guto didn't have to go lose to a fresh Benny in the final so that leaves it all open for Glory. Could go and do a rematch between Guto and Benny for who gets to fight Rico if they need to wait around for him doing random superfights or something. And if not then just go ahead with another Rico-Benny and Guto can fight whoever really next in Brazil if they're still going there.
Don't really want to see Watson-Smith back in Glory which is a shame as I liked his kicks but he just ruined it with that clinching.
Uneven Groenhart strikes again after a nice run of quite good performances. Don't think Grigorian is going to stay the champ for very long. Shuffles the division a little after 187489234 title fights with every possible combination of Holzken/Doumbe/Groenhart.

Just finished watching all the fights.
The Good: - I thought for the pacing was decent; the quality of the fights more or less gradually went up as the event progressed... - Fights ended up being competitive so props to the more fair matchmaking for this event. For example; Morales, despite losing, seemed so much more comfortable against a guy he actually stood a chance against in Boyd. - Junior Tafa ended up being surprisingly decent. Who knows, he might end up being this generation's version of Sefo or Hunt. - Adegbuyi was great. If he isn't fighting Rico anytime soon I wouldn't mind seeing him in a 'prestige' fight against Badr.
The Bad: - ...with the exception of Richard Abraham vs. Malik Watson-Smith. That fight clearly should have been part of the SFS. - Some (in all honesty not unexpected) bad reffing; Casey Greene was being counted after falling down from a teep, which cost him the fight. Also the Groenhart/Grigorian fight was stopped at the worst possible moment. If the ref was gonna stop that fight he should have done so when he saw Murthel had trouble beating the count, not change his mind about it 30 seconds later. I also found it funny how Grisham and Valtellini kept mentioning there were no standing 8 counts WHILE standing 8 counts were being given. To be fair, I find the 'rule' of NOT having standing 8 counts insanely idiotic. Some fighters are too tough for their own good and won't (quickly) fall down, making them uneligible for 8 counts in some parts of the world. lol
Some other notes: A bit disappointed with how little Baya was able to do against Sitthichai. I didn't expect him to pull an upset, but hoped he would have been able to put up more of a fight.
Was Wilson Fisk ref (see what I did there, Shadess?) yelling "FIYA!! FIYA!!" while reffing? While not quite as hilariously bad as Cecil People's "Let's Dance!" while in a wushu stance, it's still pretty high up there.
I almost missed it if it wasn't for Glory's Facebook page pointing it out, but Omari Boyd proposed to his girlfriend in the ring. Thought that was pretty funny.
All in all, this event delivered more or less what I expected; an okay, if somewhat 'meh' season opener for Glory. I'm happy I didn't stay up for it, though.

BTW I completely missed it and don't *really* care, but why was Wilson/McDonald cancelled?

I think benny should have box him up and try to finish him with boxing. Are you saying he should've been stupid? He won by being smart, good for him. Sorry he didn't entertain you well enough. This way he didn't prove he has anything for rico. Things aren't as simple as you say. It wasn't just about winning, it was about proving that he has something to offer for rico because he claims he wants the next title shot. His boxing was his undoing against rico in the second fight and he will bite the dust again pretty easy if they were to fight. He was hurt pretty badly by guto with boxing and was rocked 4 times by anderson silva. He has to prove some things before another shot at Rico. either a victory over jamal or badr. Also I'm not saying he shouldn't have used kicks against tafa, but having him already on one leg limping , barely standing on his feet and dead tired was enough for benny to try to show off his hands and prove a thing or two.

I dunno man.
Benny could have finished Tafa with a goddamn Hadouken and it wouldn't give us any indication as to how a third fight with Rico would go.
As soon as Benny saw a chance to finish the fight, he did. And he did so convincingly. Maybe he did it in more impressive fashion against Marshall, but at no point was he ever in any trouble against either of his opponents. That's about as well as he could have done, really.

I totally agree. He never was in any real trouble against Tafa, but him being afraid to let his hands go despite tafa limping, barley being able to stand on his feet and also beaing dead tired doesn't inspire confidence going into the rico rematch. But as you said, badr vs benny or benny vs jamal is the fight to make.

I didn't even think about Jamal, I'd be fine with that as well - if Jamal is healthy and in shape.
