Everyone thinks they're gonna make themselves rich and famous, ignoring that it's a small, niche sport. I still exist by sheer will power at this point and have outlived how many competitors? I'm always happy to see more people doing stuff and caring, but I can never find anyone willing to actually work for money for me. Everyone wants to be their own staaaar.

Prediction: One does 1-3 shows with anyone you've ever heard of, then they're sending out bombastic press releases about how One Kickboxing: Champion of Kings in a mall in Manila, headlined by some bums, will be broadcast in 18 billion homes One have always been really hilarious to me. When they launched Victor Cui was the public face and Chatri Sityodong was 'just' the owner of the EVOLVE gym. When I got a job offer that came from Chatri for One I knew what was up, but EVOLVE was still publishing videos of their fighters 'meeting' with One and signing new, exclusive contracts, like it was somehow this big coup. Now they pretend that it was always Chatri as the public owner and that none of the weird shenanigans ever existed. Do they still advertise themselves as in a "duopoly" with the UFC? Like they just immediately started and pretended that they were AS BIG AS THE UFC without anything but a few regional cable TV contracts in place. Just like they claimed they were gonna be the 'new' PRIDE. I wonder what the kickboxing promotion will be. Is it in a DUOPOLY with GLORY? Is it the BIGGEST KICKBOXING PROMOTION IN ASIA (while ignoring everything in China)? I appreciate their gumption but they aren't fooling anyone.

Would be so great to see most/many of the major writers and the few video guys under one site. Totally understand why joining up let's say liverkick, mmaplus and combat press for example would be quite though. Everyone having had their own thing going for a while now...but just man would it be nice to get a bit more coverage and more consistently too :/ Love me some liverkick but kickboxing media more generally is and has been kinda what the level of promotions we've had have deserved...

Whenever I talk to people about consolidating they act like I'm trying to be an imperialist and take over the world. I just have good URL that's been around for eight years and has a good rep. Maybe at one point I was aggressive about trying to shut down competitors/absorb them, but even when I succeeded they all flaked out in the end, anyway. Kickboxing is such a strange sport full of people that are so fiercely individualistic without understanding how it hurts them. I remember Roy of KickboxingPlanet freaked out on me when I reached out to him to say 'hey, we really don't need another kickboxing site out there, you do good videos and have Dutch connections, let's work together' only to get 'Uh no, you stay away from me' as a response.

I don't think so. This Roy now works for GLORY's Amsterdam office.

Rukiya posted a vid of himself training with the caption that he's practicing elbows. KNOCK OUT Rukiya incoming?

Speaking of which, Japanese site Queel is apparently going out of business by Feb end. They did a bunch of super in-deep content with interviews with major gym owners and fighters, but apparently no revenue in it. Hopefully the DaveW interview sees the light of day before it closes.

Hahahah, are you kidding me? That's fucking astounding. I was like 'wow, they post a LOT of content.' Like, look, I know I don't post a million articles, but you know why? Because there's no gain from it. Traffic doesn't get better. If you pay a team of people per article and you post a million articles about topics that don't draw traffic you are pissing your money away. That's why I curate my content. On slow days I post whatever I can to not lose out on traffic, but that stuff might be a day or two old because it happened on a day when something that will draw actual traffic happened. No diss to Enfusion, SuperKombat, Lion Fight and the like, but they draw a fraction of the traffic of GLORY, K-1 or Kunlun does. It's a literal waste of my time and resources to go all-in on them. I see someone like Anoop trying to go hard on those and now he's covering MMA because, well, nobody gives a shit. BRB gonna offer the guy that interviewed me a position.

So Rizin are apparently holding the same number of shows this year, but with one less NYE show. I still don't see them doing it but it theoretically gives them a slot in the year to dedicate to kickboxing.

I still don't see them doing it but it theoretically gives them a slot in the year to dedicate to kickboxing. They also announced that they are doing some sort of experiment outside of the 'numbered' series they announced today. Could be KB, could be overseas. Who knows. What I do know is that if they actually managed to secure Tenshin for May like they said, it would be nothing less than cosmic incompetence if they fail to set up Tenshin vs Taiga

Tenshin vs Taiga seems like the biggest fight they can realistically make, I don't know if Tenshin is fighting on the KNOCK OUT card in April, but if he is I'd expect him and Taiga to get showcase opponents in May and then a completely organic in-ring callout for NYE.

Sorta doubt Tenshin is doing KNOCK OUT in April. Maaaybe, but if they are KNOCK OUT mentioned they wanted another PKSaenchaiGym fighter (presumably Prajanchay) and that might be too tough of an opponent for promoters to squeeze in. No info on whether he's doing RISE 123, but they had a card announcement and he didn't come up so I think not. RISE in June is supposed to do a big, 8K venue event so I think he might be on that. Which leaves Tenshin open till May. Now Taiga, maybe he might do the KNOCK OUT April actually, but I dunno what his situation is. Rukiya teased that he was practicing for elbows so maybe Try Hard is going their way. Then again I don't know if the old K-1 contract is still in effect in which case they might be barred from going on other events for a while (at least till March 21) which might put either the KNOCK OUT or the RIZIN shows in jeopardy.

Maybe it's a bit early to say this but it's kinda funny, I thought the Try Hard Gym stuff was a sign of the house of cards coming down, but the end result is that I'm actually excited about matchmaking for 3 different Japanese promotions.
