American liberals should just stop assuming that Europe is so much more compliant and "civilized" than America, about everything. Even the people who should know better spread the idea that mask-wearing rates were a lot higher in Europe than in the US, for example.
That's just not true! It was consistently higher in the US except for the Midwest. It's higher in Europe *right now* only because it's mandatory in most countries. And still it's only A LITTLE higher.
Despite the massive tribal stupidity of the right-wingers, Americans have been significantly more likely to wear masks than the average European.
That says more about Europeans than about Americans, though. And mind you: I've been saying this while basically excluding Scandinavia, whose mask-wearing rates are extremely low mainly due to the government policies. I excluded those outlier countries from the equation, and still the mask-wearing rates in the US are (or were) higher on average.

Still, in most states in the US and Europe, the mask-wearing rates aren't high enough. Even 60% wouldn't cut it, is the conventional wisdom around here. Must be a lot higher to keep it under control. And it's too late once you get tens of thousands of new cases every day.
An undisciplined population with 40% mask-wearing rates would do worse than a disciplined population with 10% mask-wearing rate (think of Scandinavia). 40% might feel high enough for you, but it just isn't. Too low.
It's a lot higher than 60% in some European countries now (mainly due to the new measures) and 15 or so states in the US, but overall not high enough. It's really the same as vaccination; the rates must be high for it to be truly effective.

The biggest surprise for me so far on this election day is this:
This is a...... great take. Totally makes sense.

The American (not just liberal) collective nervous breakdown is a sight to behold. They are acting like Biden losing Florida is the end of the world, like, literally, lol.
I guess it's not that they totally didn't expect it (they should've - it's Florida, those Cubans), but it's just the overwhelming sense of dread that they get from any positive partial outcome for Trump.
The fact that Florida, a notoriously tricky state, is the fastest at counting always makes it extra chaotic on the election day.

They don't call Miami-Dade "People's Democratic Republic of Miami" for nothing. This is almost demented, lol. Literally single-handedly kicked Florida into Trump's hands.

My pro-wrestling explanation is basically the summary of all the theories on why so many Latinos (male) are voting Trump. You can use fancier academic words and expressions, but it's essentially about the spectacle of pro-wrestling and its culture of projection. And I'm not making fun of them by saying that. Pro-wrestling is a legitimately popular spectacle, part of the broad mainstream culture.
And don't get me wrong: It's figurative, not literal. They do not have to actually be pro-wrestling fans, although many of them indeed are. It's a certain kind of class-specific viewpoint and attitude.

It's really ironic and actually the indictment of liberal politics that liberals must rely so heavily on whites in the suburb despite all of their rhetoric about multiculturalism and so on.
Bernie is massively more popular among Latino men than any other Democrat for very clear reasons; He's the only one who gives them specific reasons to vote for him beyond the spectacle of the politics, for one. In other words, he's ACTUALLY REAL to them.

And that's not even specifically "Latino," a very diverse group in actuality.
It's a social class, overwhelmingly male. Trump-leaning blacks may be a small minority, but they share the same cultural traits.

Winning Florida was the quickest way for Dems to just end it, but now that they've lost it, it's going to take a loooong time either way. We'll never know until the early votes/mail ballots are counted, and that won't even start today in many places, some of which WILL decide the outcome the election.
I think I'll just have some sleep now.

I'm back.
And see? Arizona.
Just imagine how much oxygen that has put into Biden's lungs now. He can still fight now.
That state has been THE key state, all along. Only truly disconnected liberals who learned nothing from 2018 (midterm) would rely on Florida.
Few even cared about that crucial, crucial state for some reason.
Don't know if I should sleep for real or have another cup of coffee. It's 1:30PM here, and I have only slept for half an hour.

I think Biden will win NE-02, and might lose Pennsylvania, so the 270 votes scenario I posted the other day may be actually coming true...

Arizona is such a gift for Biden, and losing it is a huge, huge blow for Trump. Makes his path to victory so much harder.
