While the animation looks a bit stiff in some areas, I really dig the art style with the thick lines.

So I've watched a bunch of stuff over the past few weeks:
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: My biggest issue with this film actually wasn't a story beat, but the incredibly whack editing. It got better in the second half and things evened out a bit.
Parasite: It was really good and a cool blend of genres. Haven't seen all the other Oscar contenders for best film, but I can see why this won. In case you haven't watched this yet: please do.
Birds of Prey: This one was surprisingly good. The trailer had me expecting this to be all lover the place. It kind of was, but in a good way. Had some cool fight scenes and gave me some Deadpool vibes as well.
Sonic: Fun film, definitely aimed at a younger audience though. What I liked was how incredibly colorful the film was and that Jim Carrey showed some of his classic Ace Ventura mannerisms.

Finally watched Yip Man 4 / Ip Man 4 and it was really good.
While I'm not about to give away any story beats, some of the following may be considered spoiler territory so stop reading if you intend to go into this 100% fresh.
One of the film's big themes is (white) American racism toward anyone non-white/non-American whilst ironically selectively appropriating parts of other (Asian) culture.
Putting this obvious hypocrisy into the story and showing how some of the Chinese characters have become jaded/prejudiced under the circumstances worked really well.
While from a Western perspective the performances of the Americans in the film may come across as hammed up, keep in mind that the film was created for a Chinese audience first and foremost. Also, if you've seen any media from the 60s - where the story takes place - a lot of people actually acted like this. So intentional or not, it actually kinda works in the film's favor as far as I'm concerned.
There's also a pretty cool classic Bruce Lee / Hong Kong cinema homage in there.
As far as the fight scenes go they're definitely a cut above your average (modern) Hollywood fight scene, where a lot of it is just quick cuts to confuse audiences and hide that the actors can't fight or the director doesn't know how to shoot a fight scene to save his life.
There is of course some trickery with extreme close ups and sound design, but it's mostly well done.
I absolutely love the wide shots where two fighters face each other and the action kicks off, showing everything that's happening albeit at the risk of looking a bit choreographed.
Much like a lot of characters in the movie, some modern striking / mixed martial arts purists may scoff at the idea of Kung Fu / Wing Chun's potential effectiveness in a real fight, but I think every martial art can bring something to the table.
Case in point, fighters like Silva and Ferguson being able to trap the hands of their opponents.
Besides, if anything these films consistently show traditional martial artists with no ability to adapt having trouble to, well, adapt.

Gonna just copy my sentiments from the rant thread:
Just found out Chadwick Boseman passed and I’m pretty shocked as he was still so young and kept his illness completely private. Maybe that’s why he always came across a bit.. distant in interviews; his mind was somewhere else completely.
Black Panther is a cultural milestone. One of the better Marvel films that’s actually good as a stand-alone film and doesn’t feel like it was made from a template like te majority of them - and I say that as a fan.
Poor guy went way too early, but he left a culturally significant mark behind.
RIP T’Challa.

Looks weird and visually appealing. I'll probably dig it.
Not really familiar with the Dune source material and older movie, but I like Villeneuve.

I love Sacha Baron Cohen's work so I hope this one doesn't end up sucking.

I finished the fifth and final season of Shokugeki no Soma / Food Wars yesterday.
I wasn't aware it was the final season until the penultimate episode announced it in the next episode preview, though I had some suspicions.
While I don't think the fifth season was quite as good as the previous two and the ending felt a bit rushed I really enjoyed the series and can't help but feel a bit sad about it ending.
Having said that, it is refreshing to see something that does not drag on forever.

Would recommend Boku no Hero Academia / My Hero Academia if you don't already know it. Also One Punch Man. Must watch for every superhero fan

I know of My Hero Academia, but haven't watched any of it so far. I will check it out at some point, though.
And One Punch Man is awesome! While I don't think season two was quite as good as the amazing first one, it still had some standout episodes and definitely doesn't deserve some of the crap it's been getting online. But that's the internet for you.
Haven't read the manga yet which, of course, is way further ahead with the story, but a friend of mine who does read it is really into it.
