This is it guys, the 9 hour marathon has ended. Honestly, other than the uncomfortable starting time I was fine and the length of the event wasn't an issue.
This was a great event with tons of WTF moments and upsets (in a good way) My only minor gripe is that between main card parts 1 and 2 there was a stretch of 8 fights that went to a decision that could have used some KO's.
And it would have been cool if Melsik, Hinata and Plazibat would have performed better.
Other than that it was all good though.

I liked the production. Stage, ramp, screens and what's on them, all good. Most promotions that do introductions with the fighters lining up looks pretty crummy but K-1 did that pretty nicely again. Any musical acts usually suck too but this whoever K-1 had did quite well. Takeru vs. Stauros was fun. Allazov looked good. Cannot wait to see more his fights this year. Petrosyan and Yodwicha should be upcoming and those are pretty fucking nice fights at 70kg or any weight to look forward to. Outside of someine in the Kunlun tournament field maybe, dunno if anyone at 70kg is going top those. My rational hatred of Heavyweight K-1 was perhaps alleviated a little. Would still like to see either of those guys fight someone...idk. Wei Rui seemingly getting a pass here by the Chinese. Not really seeing anyone in China even acknowledge Koya beat him. 99.9% seemed fine with the other penalties but K-1 was unfair with not letting him recover properly with the weight limit. K-1/Japanese getting most of the blame but some also questioning Guo Chendong and the GoH team that was with him as he was also sick last time he fought on K-1. Interesting if they can/will just ignore this. GoH has basically been on bit of a downward slide for over a year now and if it looks like they're just letting K-1 take advantage of them that can't be a good look. Sending fighters to lose or be cheated while K-1 sends nobody to China and they blocked the Kaew fight for over a year too. First time I've seen "Japanese slave" comments for GoH. Will have to see if that's a thing going forward now or just temporary. Kunlun gets Thai slave nonsense from some fans, Japanese certainly wouldn't be better And finally K-1 Global just needs to disappear now so I could properly root for K-1. Been fun shows prior to this (other than the grey box HW one) but this was different.

Well, the good news is that show owned.
The bad news is that I absolutely fell asleep.

Any musical acts usually suck too but this whoever K-1 had did quite well. Gotta disagree with you on the last one. The production values were good, but I was not a fan of that rapper. Though I understand in retrospect why he was there (i.e. basically to hail back Yamazaki) I would have preferred a good old screaming lady here or there. Split on this one. In retrospect he probably should have pulled out since he looked like shit and he had already lost his belt. That said, what did Chinese fans think was gonna happen with him coming in near a kilo overweight? None of the restrictions sound super restrictive (though I have question marks about the not being allowed to rehydrate thing. Thats something I've seen in boxing, but there was no official announcement from K-1 about it. So K-1 either hid that restriction or if the Chinese side is making it up, shady either way). After the Luis Nery nonsense Japan has been so uptight about weight limits so I'm quite surprised they even allowed the fight to go on Post fight presser incoming in 23 mins. I'll post some highlights if there's anything interesting. This was cool though. Abema ratings are the highest ever for a K-1 event

Hey Shadess, you mentioned that Jianliang vs Kaew was already a nearly done deal not too long ago, do you think they are going through with that, canceling or maybe trying to get Ren to come out to China?

I didn't mind the rapper and appreciate that they were just trying to do something different, but I definitely would have preferred having Lenne Hardt or the other screaming lady there coupled with one of their classic gladiator themes.

I didn't mind that their production didn't lean at all on anything that has come previously, but I will say the second I saw the cross setup on the screen I was expecting at least a little homage to the old K-1 MAX logo and the Illuminati song.
The purple and blue K'Festa branding seems a bit holiday brochure style to me, I guess it makes sense for the spring equinox but I'm not sure if it's supposed to represent that or the weird mascot. I could do without AK-69 next time, but overall I think it's great for kickboxing to have its own yearly big show and not just get the kids table at NYE. Can't wait to see the next one.

I'd assume they'll still want to do QJL-Kaew since they have been publicly wanting to do that fight for ages. That fight was to make QJL #1 though so maybe they start calling out for whoever might be #1 going forward. That said on Combat Press rankings Kaew is #1 and QJL #2. Kaew lost and if QJL was #1 on the next ranking maybe they'll just stick him on exhibit in a glass case to never fight again

Speaking of the Illuminati song. The last time someone tried to pull it off as a walkout song, Hiroya got dropped three times by Kimura so I think people think its jinxed

**4,5 hour cut of the event. Get it while it's hot!**
Haven't checked yet to see what has been cut, but assuming intermissions and fighter intros.
Also, there's a 7+ hour cut on mma-tracker, but from all the info on the page it appears to have some audio issues, weird cuts and so-so video quality.

Any predictions for the next K-1 event in June? Which weight class gets the big tournament this time?

Any predictions for the next K-1 event in June? Which weight class gets the big tournament this time? Its 57.5kg. Takeru was forced to vacate the title when he moved up so they are looking for the "new Takeru" of that weightclass. A presser is going down on Sunday in Japan to announce the tournament field. Prob another Japan 4 vs foreign 4 type deal. From the Japan side, expect Saikyo Haruma (current 57.5kg Krush champ) and Ozawa Kaito (who's coming off a 49 sec KO) to be in the mix for sure. The rumor I'm hearing is also Murakoshi and Ashizawa Ryusei are in. I'd be HIGHLY disappointed if Ashizawa is in. He's a so-so fighter who's dropped a lot of fights and is only in the mix because of his trashtalk. Imagine Koji or Ozawa, just not particularly competent or clever. It would be a shame if Ashizawa is put in the tournament over Asahisa (WLF tournament winner). The foreign isde is harder to pick, but I'd be Elias Mahmoudi is a shoe in

This was cool though. Abema ratings are the highest ever for a K-1 event Just to go back to this for a minute, I know TV ratings in Japan are traditionally done as a percentage of households or something rather than numbers of viewers, but is there any way to know how this stacks up to a traditional TV broadcast? I remember you said somewhere that they've been in talks with TV Tokyo and TBS, as I recall from the Sengoku days TV Tokyo is usually the option you go with when you're paying to be distributed rather than the other way round so I'm guessing that means any deal is still a few years away. I know TV is held to a different standard in Japan than America, but a 3.1 million viewer peak would be good numbers for a UFC on Fox and record breaking numbers for Bellator. That's got to be raising eyebrows in TV land more than talks with TV Tokyo would suggest, right?
