Are they actual viewer numbers nowadays though? Used to be on the earlier events at least the counter just went up and up even with intermissions and shit, pretty sure used to be view counts then at least.

I wasn't watching on Abema but I'm pretty sure he mentioned that the numbers cratered during an intermission, so unless I'm remembering wrong it seems like they don't do that anymore

Any predictions for the next K-1 event in June? Which weight class gets the big tournament this time? Its 57.5kg. Takeru was forced to vacate the title when he moved up so they are looking for the "new Takeru" of that weightclass. A presser is going down on Sunday in Japan to announce the tournament field. Prob another Japan 4 vs foreign 4 type deal. From the Japan side, expect Saikyo Haruma (current 57.5kg Krush champ) and Ozawa Kaito (who's coming off a 49 sec KO) to be in the mix for sure. The rumor I'm hearing is also Murakoshi and Ashizawa Ryusei are in. I'd be HIGHLY disappointed if Ashizawa is in. He's a so-so fighter who's dropped a lot of fights and is only in the mix because of his trashtalk. Imagine Koji or Ozawa, just not particularly competent or clever. It would be a shame if Ashizawa is put in the tournament over Asahisa (WLF tournament winner). The foreign isde is harder to pick, but I'd be Elias Mahmoudi is a shoe in Have they done a 55kg one recently? I kinda stopped paying attention to 55 when Takeru moved to 57.5.

They did one a year ago on the same card that Takeru/Victor Saravia was on. Worth a watch because of Yoshiki Takei

I've not seen Varela or Vitez before but I'm going to guess that unless Mahmoudi throws a spanner in the works it's going to be yet another Ozawa vs Saikyo fight. It's a bit uninspiring so far, hopefully they put at least a good title fight on there.

LOL Andre Mannaart at a K-1 presser where his son won a belt, wearing a UFC shirt BTW this is how Roel Mannaart was greeted at the airport Roel looks about the same size as slimmed down Badr. Oh btw, highlights of 9 hours of action condensed into 9 epic minutes:

Day or two after the event some Chinese dude who used to work for K-1 China said the gloves/rehydration limit weren't anything he had ever seen in any rules or anywhere.
Now they interviewed K-1 China/Global executive director, who checked her info from K-1 Japan, and sorta just confirmed those things aren't in any rules. So now the impression of K-1/Urabe being unfair is basically fact in China since they demanded extra punishments.
The morning of the fight weigh-in limit K-1/Urabe seemingly wanted to be 67kg but they managed to negotiate that to 68kg. Wei Rui missed that by weighing in 68.2kg. Urabe was still okay enough with it that the fight happened.
Wei Rui or the one person with him in Japan don't speak English or Japanese so the little negotiation there was about the extra punishments was done via the China middleman CFP. He's getting a bit of shit now too since it looks like they just accepted the punishments and he was afraid to risk his own relationship with K-1.
Not that it really matters to K-1 Japan but they really fucked their reputation in China with this. Or well, probably hasn't helped their relationship with K-1 China/Global as far as they might need that to work.

supposedly rules in Wu Lin Feng: if overweight for less than 1kg, -1pt if overweight 1-2kg, -1pt and 50% of purse goes to opponent if overweight by over 2kg the fight is canceled for athletes safety
No penalties that require different sized gloves or limits day of fight weight for just one fighter.

Yeah the rules themselves only refer to the point deduction, but fighters have been asked to take the exact same punishments (glove change, point deduction) on multiple occasions (e.g. Paulo Tebar, Buvaisar Paskhaev). Its been in place since at least the Krush days and basically is industry practice across kickboxing and boxing. I don't understand this mentality of "I came in overweight, but I'm the victim". Its disgusting when you consider the actually egregious hoops Wei Rui's opponents in China actually are asked to jump through by his promotion

Tell it to the Chinese fans Anyway from the beginning they were fine with the other stuff just not the bigger gloves and limiting his weight for the day of the fight, which they take as just trying to fuck Wei Rui over. Dunno what loops his opponents might have had to jump through in China. Some say Pakorn could've only won by KO in a fight, which I don't know if that is true. Would've had to have been in their first fight if so. 2nd time I know he was overweight and only got the point deduction at least. Either way if one has to compare levels of fairness to Wu Lin Feng at that point you've probably messed up something if that's the comparison point. More recent GoH stuff has seemed fair enough in general. K-1 also at least briefly hid the fight from youtube after uploading it and didn't seem to really acknowledge the extra restrictions so China fans are all kinds of suspecting. Personally I'm fine with a point deduction and a part of the purse going to the opponent. K-1 seemingly just deducted money though and it didn't seem to go to Koya. If so, then I don't quite get the logic in that. Been similar with some US commissions like when Lesnar got caught for PEDs and had to pay money but it didn't go to Mark Hunt. Those should 100% go to the other fighter who followed the rules. Then as far as the gloves and limiting rehydration those are just silly I don't care how widely they might be in use or not. Have to say I haven't bumped into them too often in kickboxing at least.
