Hope he can stay retired this time. Mirko's like Saku to me, absolute legend but I stopped enjoying watching him fight some time ago.

Yeah, Almeida-Birchak KO was beautiful. In fact, whole main was top quality I thought. Didn't watch the prelims, tbh rarely do these days...

I dunno, I think it makes a a lot of sense. Rizin can get a lot of miles out of promoting a fight with Kron. Both have a fair bit of buzz around them.
Actually, I find it surprising Arsen attracts as much attention as he does. I don't follow Japanese wrestling at all but couldn't escape reading about his return to Japan to compete earlier this year on various sports sites. Then a couple of days later he turns up on telly on the news' sports section after he lost. I still don't get it. A kid loses in the semi-final of a junior wrestling tournament then does a press conference on TV.
From Arsen's side, I imagine Kron looks like a very good appoint. BJJ. Grappling. Looks much less dangerous than, say, some second generation Karate monster that'll try and knock his head off. I mean, I suspect they're just interested in taking the big pay off of one fight then back to wrestling. Unless, his loss earlier in the year put Rio Olympics ambitions to bed?

I guess this would be a good time to discuss again how much these kicks to the arm should really count. They obviously hurt. But they hurt more to the body - and they are rarely seriously fight changing, at least visibly. The Glory "strike counter" apparently didn't scored them either, as the final strike stats were quit suprising. Yeah, it seems this topic comes up every time a Thai fighter loses a decision in Kickboxing. It's complicated. Repeated middle kicks to the arm definitely do damage, and are a valid way debilitating an opponents punching ability. However, the block and parry prevalent in Kickboxing is an effective defence so... Honestly, I don't know the finer points of Glory judging (and would be happy for some one to educate me to the contrary), but I just watched the fight with the blanket view of "it's Kickboxing, kicks to the blocking arm aren't scoring". Having said that, as kbfan alludes to, even if you don't score the kicks to the arm Sittichai did enough to win I think.

Fucking love Souwer-Jienotsu. Rizin Japaning it up to the max!
Also, do any of you more knowledgable Kickboxing fans know much about Rena's opponent Jleana Valentino?

Main event commentary was pretty bad I thought. To me Sitthichai deserved the nod, but it was no way as one-sided as Mauro and Quadros made it out. I mean, van Roosmalen was scoring with some punches and, conversely, a fair few of Sittichai's middle kicks weren't.
I thought it was competitive but Sitthichai definitely edged it.

Yeah, as soon as I wrote that I thought "fuck, bet it turns out to be an all knockout mega card!".

Haha, just looking at the edited title of this thread makes me lol. I've got a massive backlog of fights to catch up so this event's definitely for the chop.

What's going on with Spong? Isn't he still under contract with WSOF?
