I wish Abema would stop geoblocking K-1 events.
Could be wrong here, but I believe outside of Japan the K-1 events only attract a relatively small group of live viewers, so opening up shouldn't result in a big hit to their servers.
Maybe it's a rights thing, though.

What is with Ghita going after all his countrymen? He seems a bit crazy.

Glory claims over 70k PPVs were sold for Badr vs. Benny: translate.google.com/translate?sl=nl&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vechtsportinfo.nl%2Fnieuws%2Fkickboks-muay-thai-nieuws%2Fglory-badr-vs-benny-event-verkoopt-record-aantal-online-pay-per-view-streams%2FGlory hasn't provided exact numbers (yet), but if we're taking 70k as a minimum and multiply it by 15 USD / 13 EUR they at least made 1.050.000 USD / 910.000 EUR in PPV revenue which seems pretty decent. Even with Badr's rumoured 500k purse that should cover all of the remaining fighter purses and perhaps some of the additional costs of the event. I don't have a clue about Glory's projections for this, but I definitely expected the number of PPV sales to be lower. Just to add some perspective; Tyson/RJJ sold 1.6M PPVs at 50 USD a pop, bringing the total PPV revenue to 80M USD. nypost.com/2020/12/08/mike-tyson-roy-jones-jr-fight-draws-insane-ppv-numbers/But that's Boxing, Tyson, RJJ, Snoop Dogg performing, a big YouTuber fighting, months of marketing, the US market behind it etc. And even then that number is considered to be insane. So all in all I suspect Glory is more or less satisfied with these numbers. There are definitely concerns for possible future PPVs though, because now: - Badr was fighting. - There is a bunch of controversy and post-event media coverage in terms of matchmaking, decisions (both Mahieddine/Plazibat and the Prelim bout) and a bit of shadyness surrounding Badr/Benny; was Badr supposed to fight? Do Ghita's accusations hold any water? Meaning the numbers are likely to be lower if the next event will be PPV-only as well. I guess Rico/Jamal III and Vakhitov/Pereira are big attractions as well, so those might sell some PPVs. Either way I'm curious to see things play out over the next couple of months.

Hari did say that his form of covid was so bad that he thought he was going to die. Also there are some fighters and athletes that haven't fully recovered even after 2 months. Cody garbrandt is the first that comes to mind. Anyway, Ghita is just salty. Funny thing is, Ghita is Roy's favourite fighter, although Ghita is basically the anti-roy... hating and trying to discredit all Romanian fighters.

It's the ultimate paradox. Seriously though, there is one point I will give Ghita; Hari shouldn't have fought that fight. I'm actually quite surprised how many people have analyzed Hari's performance without taking into account he just got off a serious COVID illness. Ernesto Hoost did a podcast/videocall with a few Moroccan fightfans after the fight and said a few key things, all of which I agree with: - Fighters nowadays aren't really intimidated by Hari anymore. Hari is not as good when he's not the one going forward/pushing the action. - Hari is not the same fighter he was 10 years ago. - Even so, Hari didn't look like his regular self in there. I mostly skipped through it, but IIRC Hoost also mentioned Hari being sick before the fight. Having said all of that, Hari is an adult who decided to fight so now he has to deal with the consequences. There are no excuses. Benny now has a great victory on his record and he deserves to be in the spotlight.

I'll admit I was wrong and take back most of the criticism I had for them going the ppv route if they actually sold 70k+ ppv's. That would be a lot more than I would have expected.
Could open up some interesting options like doing SFS/numbered card for tv that then led up to a ppv portion of an event. Not sure how sustainable that would be as I don't think there are really ppv selling names in kickboxing, specially ones you could keep doing multiple events with. Still, at least something to think about if this ppv actually worked.
Could also be kinda BS numbers if for example a lot of those "sales" came from China. Pretty sure it wasn't really a ppv there, but behind a sports streaming subscription. So the service they were on has x million paying subscribers, think they could just check out the Glory card as a part of their subscription and not pay anything more for it. Meaning Glory probably didn't make that much money from those views. Assuming fite also takes a decent chunk out of the 15 USD, but out of those Glory would still make good money. If they managed to sell a lot through their own site and those other partners who were just embedding the same inplayer stream, out of those sales they likely get to keep the vast majority of the money.

I think Robbie Timmers - who is now their matchmaker (which explains a lot) - claimed in total there were over 100k 'paid views' which would include the paid subscription viewers (currently don't have a link at hand).
So if 70k is just PPV sales and an additional ~30k is paid subscriptions I feel like that's pretty good.
Their next move(s) should be indicative whether those numbers were real or very enthusiastically rounded up.

Joseph Valtellini has a podcast now, not just kickboxing but a lot of fight stuff and at least bit of Glory talk.
